SUMMARY
The Production Engineer will report to the Unit Manager or the Technical Production Superintendent. The engineer will be responsible for the monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing the production processes to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective operations are achieved to meet health, safety, environmental, quality and production objectives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
May include, but are not limited to, the following:
Monitor, troubleshot, and optimize day-to-day unit operations and performance of assigned production area
Ensure daily operational priorities and activities are aligned with long term strategic objectives to ensure alignment with company goals
Track and manage production rates, yield, energy, and quality performance data, including month-end closing process and business review presentations
Apply technical knowledge to develop and implement process improvements or capital improvements to drive long-term success of the operating unit
Monitor, track, and provide inputs for the production, capital, and operating expense budgets including chemical treatment programs
Identify and lead continuous improvement projects with an emphasis on cost reduction, production improvement, energy savings, and waste minimization
Support plant shutdowns, startups, and turnaround activities, as well as project commissioning
Knowledgeable about OSHA 1910.119 Process Safety Management and company policies and procedures in order to lead and participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOPs), Management of Change (MOC) processes, and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSRs)
Execute environmental calculations and manage related reporting requirements
Conduct and participate in incident investigations and root cause analyses
Working collaboratively with both onsite and offsite teams including Maintenance/Reliability, Instrumentation, Electrical & Controls (IE&C), Accounting, Commercial Logistics, and Vendors
Follow the directives from the Unit Manager or Production Superintendent to ensure adherence to company policies and procedures
Provide mentorship to less experienced engineers and deliver technical training to others
Remain up-to-date with new technologies, industry best practices, and technical literature to remain knowledgeable about the current industrial landscape

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Successful candidates must satisfy background screening, including motor vehicle record screening, drug testing & pre-employment physical requirements before starting work.
A current, valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card is required.
BS degree in Chemical Engineering and 5 years of full-time work in a chemical plant.
Prefer to have Ethylene plant progressive technical experience, including process engineering, product development, and plant operations practices.
Computer programming and application skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office but can be high outside. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators. Inside exposure includes but not limited to A/C 80% of the time. Outside exposure includes but not limited to outside elements 30% of the time. May be exposed to finished carpet, tile/linoleum and/or outside concrete or gravel. Job may require working in both closed and open quarters. Exposure to dust, fumes, and gasses are at a minimum on the inside, and can be moderate outside.
