Engineering Opportunities Include:
- Commissioning & Substation Maintenance engineers provide field engineering services and technical support for the maintenance, construction, testing and commissioning of substation equipment up to and including 500kV. Equipment includes power transformers, circuit breakers, CCVT's, Cap Banks, SVC's, associated relay protection and control equipment, and SCADA systems. Maintenance and commissioning activities can be of either new or modifications to existing substations.
- Transmission & Substation Support engineers provide technical support for substation equipment, sponsor condition based asset replacement projects, assist with the development of Substation Maintenance Practices & Methods, provide regulatory support for substation equipment and support FirstEnergy's industry engagement programs.
- Transmission Line Services engineers provide field engineering services and technical support to many business units. Engineers manage inspection and maintenance programs, develop specifications and standards related to transmission line maintenance activities, and evaluate encroachments. Engineers also lead project sponsorship activities to support condition-based projects, manage emergency restoration projects, and support asset analytics.
- Transmission Planning engineers are responsible for studying and planning the safe and reliable operation of transmission and sub-transmission lines and substations, performing studies related to generation and load interconnections attaching to the system.
- Transmission Protection engineers analyze the transmission and sub-transmission systems during computer simulated disturbances, specify digital protection and control (P&C) equipment installations, design programming for this equipment and review and adjust as necessary P&C equipment responses to actual disturbances to ensure problems are isolated quickly and safely with minimal impact to customer electrical service.
- Models & Special Studies engineers support the modeling and special study efforts including development, maintenance, and testing of software models on multiple platforms representing the transmission and sub-transmission systems.
- Circuit Ratings engineers are responsible for the modeling of the transmission and sub-transmission lines, system interconnections, transmission and sub-transmission substations and transformers to ensure system accuracy, results, and reliable operation. Including the modeling of facility ratings of equipment such as lines and transformers and modeling aspects of power flow models.
- Scoping & Estimating engineers create project scopes and estimates for transmission line and substation projects. Engineers work within multiple teams of engineers, business analysts, drafters and designers engaged in preliminary engineering design, from the request for project scope and estimation through construction and record update.
- Transmission & Substation Design engineers support design at the request for project estimation through construction and record update. Engineers oversee design projects and advise of any issues that could impair the successful completion of the project on a proactive basis.
