Overview
D435 Main Propulsion Machinery is in search of Propulsor Engineer II/Senior/Specialist. As integral members of the Navy Propulsor Team, Engineers in this group are dedicated to providing high quality engineering, design, and manufacturing and construction support services to the Navy, New Construction Shipyards, and Maintenance Naval Shipyards. The group leads the integration of ship systems that interface with propulsors, and provides oversight and coordination of component vendor activities. Engineers in the group work closely with Mechanical Design to create, review, and issue design disclosures supporting the propulsor program.The group frequently works with other members of the Navy Propulsor Team including Electric Boats shock, hydrodynamics, shafting and bearing engineering, and ship signatures departments, Pennsylvania State University Applied Research Laboratory (ARL), and Navy laboratories.
Duties include but are not limited to:
The individual should have the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and procedures. S trong proficiency and experience with mechanical engineering principles including fastener design, geometric design and tolerancing, structural strength evaluations, analytic and numerical analysis methods, and rotating machinery is desired. This position requires strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Engineers must work well with all levels of engineering, trades, trade management, design, and the Navy Propulsor Team. Background or experience in finite element analysis methods is desired, but not required. Experience with Electric Boat specific software: NX/Teamcenter, Electronic Desktop, JCALs, SPARS is a plus.

Duties include but are not limited to:
- Creating and checking engineering calculations.
- Providing shipyard construction support for propulsor installation and component shipment offloads.
- Evaluating and resolving vendor manufacturing and installation issues through preparation of written dispositions and/or engineering assessments.
- Preparing written engineering procedures in support of shipyard installation efforts.
- Design and engineering of government and shipyard lifting, handling, and transportation hardware.
- Occasional travel to Washington DC, vendor sites, or Naval Shipyards/ Trident Refit Facilities may be required.

Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Civil/Structural, Marine/Ocean or Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering
- 4+ years of related engineering experience
- Master of Engineering
