Summary (Main Purpose) |
Working engineering leadership role for overall project planning and execution responsibility for both New Product Introduction (NPI) and existing business segment of products and component parts to meet deliverable objectives. Leads engineering support activities to ensure company metrics and strategic goals are met including improving manufacturing efficiencies, cost reductions, and quality product is delivered on time. |
Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions) |
Develop, implement, and execute product and process engineering strategy, plans, objectives, and goals that assure conformance to all customer and regulatory requirements. Carries out engineering team supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and discipline employees; addressing complaints and resolving issues. During product order planning phase provides technical expertise to sales and customer service staff including guidance in the projection of manufacturing feasibility, capability and capacity, budget, and ability to meet customer deliverables. Overall engineer project planning and execution responsibility for all aspects of NPI and manufacturing operations. Work closely with sales, customer service, production control, quality, and operations to ensure project requirements are met and on schedule. Provide assistance with customer engineering and outside suppliers to troubleshoot technical issues. Ensure project teams have established an adequate system, with associated processes, to plan and manage product realization in a structured and controlled manner, to meet customer and internal QMS requirements at an acceptable risk, within resource and schedule constraints. Monitor project teams to ensure consistent engineering principles and methodologies, manufacturing technologies, and Quality Management System procedures are followed. Participates in meetings to track the schedule of deliverables and actions. Mobilize internal team where necessary to drive closure on issues. Responsible for assuring implemented MF2 processes meet budgetary and quoted margins. Responsible for managing and directing CI and cost reduction initiatives, reporting and communication of progress. Oversees completion of NPI deliverables. Document and communicate project status, obstacles and resolutions to management. Manage Engineering Change Notice (ECN) assignments with engineering staff. Contribute to key strategic planning and decision-making regarding new technologies, processing, markets, machining and tooling capabilities, and customer value-added solutions. Lead continuous improvement activities and coordinate cross-functional resources to improve company metrics and strategic goals are met. Utilize programs, such as lean/six sigma, Statistical Process Control (SPC), and Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) to identify best practices and drive productivity and quality improvements throughout the organization. Drive safety and regulatory compliance in all product and component parts processes and end use. Develop and manage engineering budget. Other duties may be assigned. |
Required Skills and Experience (Minimum requirements in terms of educational background, work experience, licenses/certifications or other knowledge, skills, and abilities). |
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field At least 5 years of experience in a related role and industry sector At least 3 years supervisory experience Proficient reading, writing, oral communication, and comprehension in English language. Knowledge of industrial math including arithmetic and geometry, trigonometry, and statistics. Knowledge and working experience with MS Office, (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project). Knowledge of computer integrated manufacturing software including accessing and retrieving information using the computer. Strong knowledge of engineering design and product reliability concepts. Strong knowledge of CAD/CAM software and 3D model software. Demonstrated experience successfully managing projects and teams resulting in measurable improvements (continual in-process and preventative). Strong interpersonal and leadership skills. Proven problem solver who can build consensus and move the team to improvement. Ability to identify and evaluate complex, ambiguous business problems or technical issues and provide well thought out solutions. Demonstrated ability to work effectively within the organization and collaborate with internal and external clients to determine requirements and eliminate any barriers that may affect the quality and delivery of product. Knowledge of employment law and OSHA general industry regulations. This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
