Definition or Position Purpose
- The position is accountable for the company's OEM Engineering function.
- On a day-to-day basis, the jobholder will be responsible for both the BiW group and Paint groups.
- The jobholder will be the single point of contact for all management of OEM paint and body robot engineering activity for customers, vendors and contractors.
- The jobholder is accountable for setting and maintaining the highest performance and behavioral standards and is expected to set high standards of example to the project teams
- The jobholder will coach, guide and train project team members to perform in a high motivation and high achievement setting
Major Functions & Duties
Manage all automotive projects through the various project/program managers; support the Sales Dept.; provide management support to the Company as a whole and generally make a major contribution to the business:-
- Set the highest engineering standards and ensure that technical input is of the highest professional and ethical standards and aligned to customer needs and expectations
- Help prepare and approve proposals and quotes, working in harmony with OEM account managers and engineering project managers where appropriate
- Oversee the planning, scheduling and execution of engineering plans throughout the lifecycles of projects and be accountable for engineering financials
- Continually upgrade and maintain the teams technical expertise in robot products, systems and their implementation including competitor’s robot products
- Be an active member of the the company's management community, buying into the culture, goals, objectives and policies of the company and setting example for others to follow
Major Responsibility and Authority
- Main contact for customer and vendors regarding all automotive robot engineering matters
- Responsible for negotiations with customers and vendors affecting costs, schedule and delivery, in harmony with OEM Account Managers and the Director of Sales
- Work closely with OEM Account Managers planning and ensuring the successful execution of Automotive projects and provide guidance and management input to paint and BiW groups where appropriate
- Responsible for successful interdepartmental cooperation and team working
- Oversee reporting of project status and budgets to customer and internal management
- Responsible to the company for all automotive engineering business plans and budgets, goals and objectives
- Responsible with project managers, for customer buy-off and final project sign-off
- Accountable for project costs and profitability and complete customer satisfaction
- Responsible for coaching and training, motivating and schooling project managers towards excellence in performance and team behaviors
Required Skills/Education/Experience
- Minimum of a Bachelors in an Engineering discipline is required
- Must be a great coach, mentor and an exemplar of sound people management techniques
- 10 – 15 year’s solid hands-on industry experience in automation system integration
- Direct experience with one or more Automotive OEMs is essential requirement
- Experienced in managing BiW and/or Paint projects is required
- Well-developed understanding of time and cost relationships within project management
- Budget preparation and management experience as an engineering manager is required
- Management reporting experience and expertise in presenting complex material to executive management both internally and to the customer’s decision making team
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills along with patience, tact, diplomacy and the obvious skill to successfully maneuver the matrices of customer relationships
- Must be computer literate with a high level of expertise in Excel and other office software
- We expect you to possess obvious leadership presence and the polish necessary to successfully represent the company at all levels of customer interactions
