About the Job
Akkodis is seeking an Engineering Manager position with a client located in Grand Rapids, MI. Must hold a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering field to be considered for this position. You will be working with Product Managers to set the BCP NPD project strategy and priorities and aligns resources accordingly. Responsible for providing technical leadership for BCP NPD team.
Pay/Salary Range $110k-$120k.
Engineering Manager job responsibilities include:
Mentoring, supervising, and collaborating with and sets priorities for a group of engineers and technicians to successfully execute industry focus projects aligned with the Business Unit objectives.
Designing new products and processes by following the product development process.
Leading NPD testing lab by setting test standards, determine testing que priority, and coaching test technicians.
Collaborates closely and effectively with colleagues around the world both within assigned industry and as needed for other industries.
Provide technical support for existing products to improve product performance and cost by working with manufacturing personnel and external suppliers.
Assists in development and refinement of metrics and the development process that will improve delivery of new product designs.
Leads efforts to research and determine the Technical Feasibility of new opportunities that may result in new customer solutions in the form of new products and/or services. Provides insights in routine process of ranking and prioritizing new product development projects with HD Marketing & Engineering leadership.
Directs rapid-prototyping activities for assigned product development projects while utilizing both internal and external resources as needed. Serves as technical lead within Sprint events, VRT samples, and other Front End Discovery phase activities.
Defines and directs internal & external (field) testing activities to understand product requirements and validate & verify new designs.
Participate in Continuous Improvement programs, WPO and work on special projects as assigned.
Estimate BCP NPD yearly budget including research, development, and capital project plans. Works closely with Sr. Engineering Manager to set the yearly BCP NPD budget and follow a plan to maintain it.
Lead IP plan for BCP NPD products by working Sr. Engineering Manager, internal team, and legal counsel for global patent activities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering field is required.
Minimum 15 years related experience.
Experience first-hand working knowledge and development of a broad range of manufacturing processes such as: injection molding and plastics processing, precision and CNC machining, welding, metals fabrication and casting, heat treatment, metal and plastic extrusion, automation, and assembly.
Experience working with and/or leading Cross Functional teams in the development, launch, and troubleshooting of new and existing products that include mechanical, electro-mechanical, electrical, and electronic / digital systems.
Experience applying Lean NPD concepts in the development, design, launch, and continuous improvement of products.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of time, sometimes over weekends.
