Compensation and Benefits:
Full Salary Range $50,020 - $89,510 Annually Hiring Range: $52,021. - $68,449 Annually depending on qualifications, with an excellent benefits package. Primary Duties/Brief Description of Work:
The Engineering Specialist is a skilled technician who acts as the lead over the asphalt testing laboratory. This position analyzes asphalt cement samples at the appropriate frequency to maintain compliance with North Carolina Department of Transportation material specifications, and maintains all necessary documentation for annual laboratory certifications required by the NCDOT. This individual will also inspect clearing, grading, and installation of storm sewer, placement of curb and gutter, installation of sidewalks, placement/compaction of stone base, and asphalt placement and quality control testing of construction materials, as the workload requires. The Engineering Specialist works independently under the supervision of the Supervisor of Construction Inspections and must have a general understanding of engineering drawings as applicable to roadway construction; a general ability to interpret construction plans, diagrams, specifications and field stake-outs; a general knowledge of the procedures/practices commonly used in roadway construction; a basic knowledge of the principles of construction surveying, an ability to work independently in stressful work environments with technical challenges, the ability to apply job site experience effectively to expedite work by under-performing contractors; the basic ability to give and to follow oral/written instructions; and, a basic ability to communicate with tact and sensitivity with the public. The physical requirements of the job include walking, standing, sitting, bending, reaching and kneeling, stooping, lifting up to 25 lbs., and other activities associated with the primary responsibilities.
