Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Engineering Technician V to assist the Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division’s Naval Architecture and Engineering Department in achieving new or improved understanding in concepts and technology, fundamental and applied research of the marine environment, engineering and naval architecture, hydromechanics, maneuvering and control, fluid dynamics, aerodynamics, modeling and simulation, test and evaluation, and training.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

• Ten (10) years of full-time professional experience as an Engineering Technician, performing the following skills:
  • Welding (mig, tig, stick, and gas) or machine operation (lathes and mills), sheet metal fabrication, interpreting models and drawing packages, recommending, ordering, receiving, and processing materials and tooling for specific jobs, advanced knowledge of programming CAD/CAM software such as SolidWorks and CAMWorks to perform complex machine work and fabrication, provide machine time and materials estimates, interfaces with customers on a daily basis to communicate design issues and recommend changes.
• Mastery of programming CAD/CAM software such as SolidWorks and CAMWorks to perform complex machine work and fabrication, managing drafting projects, reviewing drawings, ensuring Mil specifications and ASME drafting standards are met, drawings are complete and accurate, expert in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, performing complex drafting and design calculations.
• Current Secret Clearance

 Ability to work independently and as part of a team under project deadlines.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform welding (MIG, TIG, stick, and gas) or machine operation (lathes and mills), sheet metal fabrication, interpreting models and drawing packages, recommending, ordering, receiving, and processing materials and tooling for specific jobs
• Program CAD/CAM software such as SolidWorks and CAMWorks, provide machine time and materials estimates.
• Mentor other employees in CAD/CAM software such as SolidWorks and CAMWorks
• Mentor other employees in CNC Programming
• Manage drafting projects with minimal instruction, ensure drawings are to Mil Spec and ASME drafting standards
• Assist in review of drawings for completeness and accuracy
• Perform complex drafting and design calculations
