Clinical

- Oversee the standardization of breast cancer treatment; integration of breast cancer clinical care and breast cancer clinical\translational research across the Jefferson Enterprise.
- Work closely with Jefferson Health leadership to expand the clinical offerings, enhance its clinical reputation, and grow market allegiance for clinical services
- Foster clinical growth so that appropriate breast cases can be referred, and that management is handled in consistent fashion across the enterprise
- Effectively partner with key colleagues in related disciplines across Divisions, Departments, Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center (SKCCC) and the Jefferson Health enterprise to develop a comprehensive, national recognized breast cancer program.
- Serve as a role model for generating meaningful scientific, clinical, and educational initiatives and effectively identifies, encourages, and promotes opportunities for faculty success at Jefferson through mentorship
- Represents Jefferson Health and SKCCC at national and international meetings, within major societies, and oncology meetings
- Participates and promotes faculty to participate in key committees within American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Cancer Society, American Association of Cancer Research or National Clinical Trails Network
Research
- Provide leadership and guidance in fostering novel clinical and translational research initiatives and promote collaborations among clinical, basic, and population scientists to further Beast Cancer research at SKCCC and throughout the Jefferson Enterprise.
- Oversee and grow the Breast Cancer Clinical trials portfolio and promote the integration of clinical research into the community sites.
- Work with the basic and population-based researchers to develop translational research studies which can foster extramural funding
- Develop nationally recognized clinical and research programs and infrastructure consistent with Jefferson’s tradition and vision for outstanding achievement in these areas
- Contribute to the successful renewal and expansion of the SKCCC NCI core grant in areas related to breast oncology/
- Lead and further develop a team of multidisciplinary investigators and staff which includes medical oncologists, radiation oncologist, surgeons, pathologists, cancer biologists, biostatisticians, medical informatics specialists, bioinformatics specialists, data mangers, clinical trial coordinators and nurses
- Lead the weekly clinical trials meetings with the research team to review the team’s performance and patient safety on trials
- Co-lead the breast multidisciplinary working group (MDG) meetings and MDG clinical trials review: the focus is new research directions, pre-clinical data leading to investigator-initiated clinical trials and new trial activation review
- In partnership with SKCCC and Jefferson Health leadership, support efforts to enhance philanthropic support for breast cancer research, determine how that support should be used, and provide stewardship of gifts
- Participate in various internal and external committees related to the research and education missions of SKCCC and Jefferson Health System and the NCI designation of SKCCC
Administrative and Oversight Responsibilities
- Work with the Division Director, Vice Chairs, and Directors of Clinical Operations to identify goals and needs in the areas of breast medical oncology throughout Jefferson Health.
- Develop and regularly report to the Division on key metrics of breast oncology program performance and integrity
- Ensure consistency and quality of breast oncology Program participation in Departmental, SKCCC, and Jefferson Health breast oncology Program activities
- Ensure that breast oncology program members exhibit excellent Departmental, SKCCC, and institutional citizenship (e.g. regular attendance at appropriate meetings, collegiality across functional areas, compliance with Standards of Practice and Professional behavior, etc.)
- Identify and, where possible, resolve actual and potential barriers to the further development of the breast oncology program
- Organize, chair, and attend regular breast oncology/tumor board staff meetings
- Work effectively with the Vice Chair for Diversity Programs to guarantee adequate representation of women and minorities as faculty, investigators, and subjects for the breast oncology Program
- Confirm that fair and adequate physician coverage is in place at all times for inpatient care, teaching, nights and weekends, and other shared clinical Program responsibilities
