Responsibilities:
What you'll be challenged to do:
TranSystems’ Boston Massachusetts office has an opening for an Entry Level Bridge Engineer. This position is open to entry level engineers. This position includes structural design, rehabilitation, and inspection of bridges and tunnels along with the preparation of load ratings, construction documents, specifications, and estimates. In addition, duties may include construction inspection services. Day to day assignments and technical guidance will be provided by current staff Project Managers and Project Engineers. Assignments may involve travel within the continental United States. General duties include, but are not limited to:
- Performing bridge and tunnel inspection assignments as an inspection team member while documenting inspection findings and preparing inspection reports throughout MA and the US.
- Participating in bridge design assignments involving contract plans preparation and specifications, design calculations, calculation of quantities and development of cost estimates.
- Performing load rating analyses.
- Office support for construction support services.
- Reviewing shop drawing submittals. Organize submittals and address questions from contractors during the construction phases of structures.
- Assist or participate in preparation of business proposals.
Qualifications:
What you bring to our firm:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil and/or Structural Engineering with an emphasis in structures from an ABET-accredited university or college.
- Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam is strongly encouraged.
- Working knowledge of reading plans and shop drawings and evaluating contractor compliance with construction plans and specifications.
- Team oriented engineer and strong communicator with ability to work concurrently within multiple projects demands and transitioning priorities.
- Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.), AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
- Be eager to learn, be a team player and be enthusiastic.
- Take pride in their work and a commitment to quality work and timely communication.

- Able and willing to travel within the continental United States.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.
What we’d prefer for you to bring to our firm:
- Experience in new bridge design, bridge rehabilitation, and/or inspection of bridges.
- Experience with structural design software such as AASHTOware BrR, StAAd Pro, MDX, CSiBridge, LUSAS and/or other structural analysis software and applications such as MathCAD.
- Interest or experience in rope access techniques (SPRAT, IRATA).
- No relocation assistance - local candidates preferred.
Work Environment:
- The work environment will include a mixture of office and field work.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however, construction and field assignments can be severe (i.e. Airport noise, inside factories, construction equipment, jack hammers, etc).
- The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, talk, or hear, and drive a vehicle. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus.
