Bergmann, an affiliate of Colliers Engineering & Design, is currently seeking an Entry-Level Dam Safety Engineer to join our Water group in Holmdel, NJ! Our Water Discipline is growing, and we have exciting projects to engage motivated engineers who enjoy working on a variety of projects on or near the water. Our projects are unique designs and provide a diverse array of interesting work to keep our staff challenged and engaged. Our upcoming project portfolio includes jobs on some of the largest infrastructure projects in the country. Our dam and levee safety work backlog is strong and we are seeking engineers with an interest and expertise in all aspects of dam safety.

Responsibilities:- Develop project rehabilitation designs for dam, levees and other water retaining structures.
- Conduct dam and levee safety inspections and surveys for condition evaluation or in support of design efforts – investigate variables, obtain measurements, photographs, videos, and take notes; write reports.
- Research and develop design options and document findings for project engineer/manager.
- Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques and procedures, using own judgement to make adaptations and modifications to existing designs.
- Assist Project Engineers and leaders as needed in the creation of proposals, client information, and designs.
- Mentor under more senior staff to further develop understanding of dam and levee inspection, design, construction, and analysis.
- Prepare construction documents (plans and specifications).
- Perform/manage cost/quantity estimates and project scheduling.
- Construction oversight/monitoring for dam and levee rehabilitation and removal projects.
- Depending on specific training and skill set:
- Perform and review engineering analyses including seepage and slope stability analyses of embankment dams and levees, toe drain and filter designs, and gravity dam stability analyses.
- Perform and review hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for spillway capacity evaluations, dam break analyses, and developing Emergency Action Plans.
- Perform and review structural calculations for water retaining structures (e.g., steel gates, concrete walls, etc.).
- BS Degree in Civil Engineering or related field of practice required
- MS Degree in Civil Engineering preferred
- EIT candidates preferred
- Interest in dams, levees and water retaining structures
- Desire to learn from other experts as well as from self-study
- CAD skills are a plus
- Strong Microsoft Office skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Attention to detail
- Desire to work collaboratively in a team environment
