ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB is looking for a GIS Analyst to join our team. The qualified candidate will contribute across multiple project teams and provide a range of GIS services relating to transportation and environmental projects.
This position may be based out of our Virginia Offices (Tysons, Richmond, Williamsburg, and Virginia Beach), Raleigh, NC, as well as Washington, DC.
Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in Washington, DC is $51,000-$64,000. This offer is determined based on a number of job-related factors including internal comparators, skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities and geographic location. In addition, VHB offers a holistic benefits package which can be found here.

Responsibilities
- Performs standard analysis of spatial data using GIS technology (e.g., buffering, spatial overlays, distance calculations, mapping).
- Researches and corrects problems with data using spatial and logical analyses.
- Performs data searches and retrievals.
- Extracts and organizes data.
- Produces mapping and graphic products within a GIS environment.
- Converts GIS data to and from CAD software format.
- Uses coordinate geometry to convert surveying data to GIS format.
- Participates in professional and personal development aligned with career goals.
- Performs all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and VHB policies and procedures.
Skills and Attributes
- Theoretical knowledge of the principles of geographic information science and GIS technology.
- Beginner skill in the use of ArcGIS Pro for daily tasks.
- Ability to develop and maintain online spatial data within ArcGIS Online and Portal.
- Fundamental skill in applying GIS technology to solve analytical problems.
- Fundamental knowledge of relational database management systems and the ability to use the SQL language.
- Knowledge of the fundamentals of Global Positioning System and skill in the use of GPS technology for data collection.
- Ability to utilize data transformation software as a means of importing and exporting data for use by the engineering department.
- Ability to express meaning through cartography.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Team oriented with ability to perform multiple tasks independently in a timely manner and collaborate effectively and positively with coworkers.
- Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail oriented.
- Skills and knowledge must be commensurate with required experience and job level.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 0-2 years of experience in the use of GIS technology
- BS in Geography, Engineering, Planning, or GIS
- Desktop experience with Esri’s ArcPro is preferred
- Experience with ArcGIS Online, Enterprise, Field Maps, Survey123, Arcade and/or Python is preferred
