Serco is hiring an Entry level Engineering Technician to be part of a dynamic team supporting our US. Navy withequipment, and C5ISR system installations located in the beautiful surrounds of NewportNews, Virginia.
Serco supports our US Naval Ships with successful and safe work by providing cabling, equipment, and C5ISR system installations for our Military. You will join an amazing team to fabricate, and assemble various electromechanical and electronic assemblies by applying appropriate safety techniques.
You will also play a critical role in ensuring that successful and safe work is performed on-board U.S. Naval Ships and our Military installations, which is vital to our Mission to protect and serve our Military.
In this role, you will:
+ Install and repair wiring, fixtures, and equipment for all electrical services aboard ship and in shipyard facilities
+ Follow blueprints and wiring diagrams
+ Install conduit to bulkheads with brackets and screws, using hand tools, and threads wires. For example: connection boxes, circuit breakers, voltage regulators, and switch panels.
+ Strips insulation from wire ends and solders ends to terminals, using stripping pliers and soldering iron.
+ Connect power-supply circuits to radio, radar, sonar, fire control, and other electronic equipment.
+ Test electrical characteristics, for example, voltage, resistance, and phase angle, in circuits, using voltmeters, ohmmeters, and phase rotation indicators.
+ Troubleshoot electrical equipment and circuits using appropriate test equipment to detect and effect required maintenance, repairs, or replacement requirements.
+ Perform maintenance and repair of generators, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, electrical motors, distribution panels, alarm and lighting circuits.
+ Conduct insulation resistance measurements of electrical cables to determine condition and effects repairs or replacements as required.
+ Maintain adequate inventories of electrical spare parts and requisitions replacements as required.
+ Lift up to 50 pounds with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 40 pounds for majority of shift (while being in a standing, crouching, or walking position. Attention to safety critical).
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will have:
+ The ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance
+ A High School Diploma/GED
+ The ability to obtain and gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation and pass a drug screening
+ The ability to obtain an OSHA certification
+ Familiarity in the following areas:
+ Band/pack MCTs/RISE
+ Layout & mount small equipment as needed
+ Read drawings (Beginner)
+ Basic knowledge of tools, QA documents, meter
+ Safety: Follows all PPE protocols.
+ The ability to work in high heat spaces, climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders, work in kneeling position for layout of cable runs under false decking
+ Have attention to safety.
+ Be able to get respirator qualified and wear proper PPE throughout their work shift
+ Must be willing to travel up to 25% to various work sites around the area
Additional desired experience and skills:
+ An active Secret clearance
+ Shipboard experience
+ An OSHA 10 certification
+ Familiarization with NAVSEA, standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of electrical repair, fabrication, and installation
