SUMMARY
The Environmental Services Technician will provide for a safe, clean and accommodating environment at Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana, with an emphasis on customer service and serves all patients, staff and visitors. The EVS Floor Technician will exhibit the principals of service excellence, leading by example, and mentor others in the performance of their assigned duties. Understands the role of employee's individual position regarding HIPAA requirements and level of access to Protected Health Information as defined in HIPAA hospital-wide policies. Understands that it is the responsibility of every RHI staff member to provide patient safety as a priority response according to RHI evidence-based practices. Encourages patients to be actively involved in their own care as patient safety strategy.
JOB DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Complete all cleaning duties in assigned areas within the time allotted. Visual inspection of assigned areas cleaned demonstrates compliance with job requirements. Responsible for the maintenance and care of hard surface floors by dry, damp and wet mopping floors; mixing and applying cleaning, striping, waxing and sealing chemicals in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations.
Maintain floor surfaces by operating electrical floor scrubbing and buffing equipment following safety precautions Hand cleaning surfaces such as baseboards and other surfaces that may be involved with preparing hard surface floors for final finishing. Operate wet/dry vacuum during the process of floor stripping, barricading areas to ensure safety. Responsible for maintenance and care of carpeted areas by spot cleaning, shampooing and extracting carpets per and established schedule; mixing and applying chemical safely; operating a variety of carpet cleaning equipment including vacuums, buffers, extractors, etc. Ensure that equipment and supplies are maintained in good working order or tagged for proper repair. Operate the hospital-owned or leased vehicles to transport equipment as needed.
Support with other Housekeeping Department responsibilities:
Required to assist in moving furniture as needed to perform floor maintenance or as requested for hospital events. Clean up spills including hazardous and infectious waste, as observed and requested while using proper disposal protective items and final disposal. Assist with the transportation of bio-hazardous waste pails and soiled linen and trash from the various collection points thought the hospital to the designated central storage area in the hospital. Report the need for repair and or potential hazards of equipment, furniture, fixtures and building to the Maintenance Tech. Assist the ESTM with general cleaning duties and perform other related duties as needed. Participates in continuous quality improvement/ program evaluation activities and observes measures to ensure that Hospital, JCAHO, CARF, and other quality standards or regulations are met. Uses appropriate technique in performing duties to avoid or minimize accidents and injury related to unsafe practice. Proactively seeks information and resources, including the Environment of Care Manual, to aid in safe performance of duties to contribute to the RHI culture of safety. Employee is focused on providing customer satisfaction (including, but not limited to, patients, co-workers, visitors, vendors and physicians) as a primary goal/outcome of all interactions, places customer first in the performance of job duties and responds to needs in a timely manner as evidenced by the absence of legitimate customer complaints. Clean and maintain first floor windows. Help pass linen as needed. Help with security duties as needed. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Good written and verbal skills are required. Be willing to work in a team environment. Alert, interpersonal skills required. All ES Floor Technicians shall be able to operate telephones, hand-held radios, pagers, mops brooms, cleaning carts, vacuum cleaners, and hand-held fire extinguishers during the course of their shift. Team members must also be able to respond to assigned areas to assist with evacuation during any emergency or disaster.
EXPERIENCE
Housekeeping duties preferred, either hotel or hospital setting is strongly preferred.
EDUCATION
Must possess a High School diploma or equivalent.
