Environmental Attorney (Transactional) - Round Hill Search

About the Job
A national business law firm seeks a skilled and experienced Environmental Attorney with a focus on transactional work to join its Environment, Land Use, and Natural Resources group. The ideal candidate will have experience with state and federal site cleanup efforts and compliance with environmental regulations and thrive on complex legal and factual analysis, requiring strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
Responsibilities:
- Advise clients on environmental risks and liabilities in the context of mergers, acquisitions, financings, real estate transactions, and other corporate deals
- Conduct and oversee environmental due diligence processes, including the review of Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) and environmental compliance audits
- Draft, review, and negotiate environmental provisions in contracts, including purchase agreements, lease agreements, indemnities, and warranties related to environmental liabilities
- Ensure that clients are in compliance with federal, state, and local environmental laws
- Assist clients in obtaining necessary environmental permits and licenses for operations, developments, and projects, ensuring adherence to all regulatory requirements
- Provide strategic advice on managing environmental risks associated with business operations, including advising on environmental insurance products
- Represent clients in interactions with regulatory agencies, including the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and during negotiations related to environmental liabilities
- Advise clients on sustainability initiatives, corporate social responsibility, and the integration of environmental considerations into business practices
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
- Admission to the state bar in the relevant jurisdiction (AK, CA, DC, ID, MN, OR, UT or WA)
- Minimum of five (5)+ years of experience in environmental law with a focus on transactional work.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations.
- Experience in conducting environmental due diligence and managing environmental risk in transactions.
- Excellent analytical, drafting, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative legal team.
- Strong client service orientation with the ability to build and maintain lasting relationships.
Salary:
$245,000 - $300,000,commensurate with your experience and qualification
