Environmental Project Manager (Independence Excavating) - DiGeronimo Companies (Independence Excavating)

Independence Excavating is looking for an experienced Environmental Project Manager . As the EPM, your key responsibilities will include the management of private and public contracting work associated with environmental compliance, industrial hygiene, and safety / OSHA compliance. This position does require travel 40-50%.

A typical project looks like:

• Attending bid walks as needed to assess the amount of work, including rough disposal estimates to properly abate a facility of all hazardous substance and regulated materials to allow for demolition. Typical demolition environments are heavy industrial settings
• Performing non-hazardous and hazardous waste characterization, profiling and arrange for proper transportation and disposal
• Performing sampling in the field as needed
• Performing job site visits and thoroughly assess environmental remediation/abatement work to ensure regulatory compliance
• Providing field support as necessary to expedite work
• Preparing technical proposals and written means and methods of regulated material abatement and remediation work
• Preparing bid estimates
• Overseeing and managing implementation of decommissioning/remediation field work
• Performing project management duties as it relates to decommissioning/remediation work
• Performing and thoroughly documenting field work activities for environmental and construction projects in using tools and resources of the trade
• Coordinating with Local, State, and Federal governmental agencies and obtain permits as needed
• Working daily with Superintendent, Project Managers and Operation's Managers

• Identifying potential waste streams, conduct field sampling and profile as necessary
• Performing regulated material surveys identifying materials that required abatement prior to demolition or civil work including but not limited to oils, universal waste, PCBs, radioactive devices, e-waste, ash, oil filled electrical equipment, industrial catalyst, acids, caustics and other water treatment media
• Assisting in development of field methodology specific to environmental work and ensure work is being performed in accordance with owner/bid specification requirements
• Supporting field crew by procuring needed materials (i.e. drums, spill kits, bulb eater supplies)
• Assisting with getting equipment to environmental crews
• Coordinating waste pick-ups at various sites.
• Writing SPCC plans, implementing and monitoring demo specific Storm-water and erosion control plans
• Overseeing tank pulls and closures
• Coordinating regulatory closures and work as necessary for demolition work
• Supporting IH work - including sample collections and monitoring
• Assisting with JHA, STA Card and hazard assessments to support environmental work
• Tracking Environmental costs to support project managers
• Managing Environmental subcontractors.
• Other duties as assigned

Do you have what it takes?

• At least 5-10 years' experience working primarily in the environmental/demolition industry with an emphasis on abatement of regulated materials and waste management
• Must be comfortable performing field work in heavy industrial settings
• Demolition experience preferred
• Possess OSHA knowledge as it pertains to management of hazardous substances and basic industrial hygiene principles
• Ideally the candidate will have knowledge of industrial process equipment and/or field experience in similar settings. Oversight experience is also acceptable
• Must have knowledge of storm water compliance, air quality, hazardous abatement/removal, RCRA compliance, universal waste management, soil assessments, etc.
• Must have strong organizational skills in order to handle the variety of tasks assigned
• Must be able to effectively communicate verbally with employees, external vendors, owners, general contractors, and local enforcement agencies
• Must be able to prepare written estimates and prepare technical proposals
• Ability to be highly motivated to continue to develop professional licenses, certifications, and expertise through formal training and on-the-job experience
• Travel is required for this position. We will attempt to give adequate notice; however, you may be required to travel within a days' notice or sooner. It is anticipated that 40% to 50% of work will be performed in the field at project locations
