About the Position
Luster's Environmental Consulting Group is adding an Environmental Specialist/Ecologist to its growing practice, which serves clients across the state. You'll get the opportunity to be part of an exciting team of professionals that applies diversified knowledge and advanced scientific principles, theories, concepts, and techniques of geology, hydrology, biology or other related sciences to assist in completing project life cycle environmental services while supplying environmental oversight.
This is a long term, full-time hybrid position. When not working remotely, this position requires travel to project sites within Georgia. May require occasional overnight stays.
Responsibilities
- Conduct field inspections and audits of project records pertaining to Environmental Compliance.
- Conduct site inspections of Industrial Stormwater Dischargers (those with coverage under the State of Georgia Environmental Protection Division's Industrial Stormwater Permit GAR041000) to determine compliance.
- Documents all activities.
- Assist in technical reviews of environmental deliverables while tracking project status to ensure contract and permit compliance.
- Fieldwork will include completing Environmental Compliance Field Assessments of Best Management Practices (BMPs), compliance with regards to the Georgia Erosion and Sedimentation Act of 1975, Georgia Water Quality Control Act, NPDES Construction Stormwater Permit, and all associated Rules for these statutes.
- Collects and performs both Physical and Chemical Analyses of Surface Water (dry and wet weather samples) as required by the NPDES GAR041000 & GAR100002 Permits.
- Perform State water determinations, and ecology special studies to include wetland delineation, habitat assessments, and protected species survey.
- Determine or develop best methodology and technical approaches for conducting analysis in field work; set up test equipment as necessary to obtain scientific data.
- Examine and evaluate present and future potential environmental science effects relating to the planning, design, and construction of proposed projects.
- Perform review of work to ensure the design or construction is in compliance with design criteria and scientific specifications; determine the need for additional investigations, studies, or alternate plans or designs if necessary.
- Occasional overnight travel may be required.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental biology, ecology, wildlife management, or related disciplines AND 1+ year of related environmental compliance experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Outlook, Work, Excel, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in relevant scientific discipline (e.g., environmental science, environmental biology, ecology, wildlife management, and related disciplines).
- GA EPD experience.
- Experience preparing Environmental Assessments, Environmental Impact Statements and special studies documentation, if applicable.
- Experience working with Georgia Department of Transportation environmental procedures.
- Experience conducting Threatened and Endangered species surveys (especially Bat, Fish, and Mussel Surveys), to include coordination with U.S. Fish and Wildlife. Experience identifying migratory bird habitat and essential fish habitat.
- Experience conducting wetland, stream, other waters of the U.S. delineation.
- Experience with permitting associated with the Clean Water Act and Rivers and Harbor Act.
- Experience calculating wetland and stream mitigation credits in accordance with USACE standards.
- Experience providing documentation necessary for GADNR stream buffer variance, resulting in obtaining such variances.
- Knowledge of federal and state environmental regulatory framework.
- Knowledge of Georgia aquatic resources, environmental preservation, environmental restoration, compliance regulation, and conflict resolution.
- Functional knowledge of ArcGIS software.
- Experience in road and bridge construction.
- Experienced with technical/scientific writing.
Compensation Details
The salary range listed for this role is $26.44 to $31.25 per hour. The final salary offered is based on multiple factors and is thoughtfully aligned with each candidate's level of experience, breadth of skills, total education achieved, certifications/licenses that have been obtained, etc.
