About the Job
Reporting to the Head of Environmental Health & Safety, the Environmental Specialist will manage the environmental aspects with some involvement with health and safety initiatives internally and externally to ensure a culture of caring, where each associate is accountable and responsible for environmental conditions and behaviors. The Environmental Specialist ensures compliance with government regulations and company policies including continuous improvement initiatives and maintaining environmental programs. This role will be based out of our brand-new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility located in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin.

Responsibilities
- Maintains current knowledge of and implementation of applicable regulatory and corporate environmental regulations.
- Responsible for implementing systems, procedures, and work practices to ensure “audit ready” state of compliance including assisting in developing/implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s.)
- Conducts energy audits and identify areas of inefficiency within organization's operations. Implement energy-saving strategies and technologies.
- Manages our recycling initiatives, ensuring that proper recycling practices are implemented throughout the facility, including educating associates on recycling guidelines and monitoring compliance.
- Implements water management practices, monitor water quality, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations. Oversee BOD control methods and monitor levels to ensure compliance and take necessary corrective actions.
- Develops and implements energy management systems, conduct audits, and identify opportunities for energy efficiency improvements to adhere to ISO 50001 standards and maintain certification.
- Ensure that all necessary permits are obtained (air, storm water, energy, etc.) while monitoring emissions to prevent and reduce pollution to compliance standards.
- Identifies hazardous materials, develop safety protocols, train associates on handling procedures, and ensure compliance with hazardous materials regulations including reporting and appropriate disposal.
- Provides accurate and timely reporting on Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) to drive positive performance while driving adherence applicable to HARIBO’s policies/procedures through training & coaching activities.
- Understands the safety risks associated with jobs by performing risk assessments as needed site wide.
- Ensures thorough investigation on all environmental incidents in coordination with managers, supervisors and associates as needed to find root cause and meet SMETA environmental requirements.
- Coordinates with Training Manager to facilitate all environmental training for site (Hazmat, Waste Treatment, SPCC/SWPP, etc.).
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Minimum of 4 years in environmental management in a manufacturing setting is required.
- Comprehensive knowledge of NFPA, EPA regulations and Management Systems (i.e. ISO 50001) is required.
- Knowledge of State & Federal rules/regulations such as OSHA & EPA are required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Safety, Environmental, or related field preferred.
- Consumer packaged goods industry experience is preferred.

- Ability to multitask and work in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, presentation and facilitation skills.
