The City of Kettering’s Public Service Department is recruiting to fill the Full-time position of Equipment Mechanic I or Equipment Mechanic II, depending on applicant’s qualifications. This position works under the general supervision of the Fleet Manager at the Vehicle Maintenance Center. The skilled position is responsible for the utilization of proper procedure and techniques to diagnose the nature and extent of needed repairs or maintenance of a wide variety of vehicles and equipment in the City’s fleet. Position may work independently in the completion of assigned tasks. Assignments are issued through work orders, and written or oral general instructions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The Equipment Mechanic I position is responsible for the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of a wide variety of automobiles, light duty trucks, and similar transportation or grounds maintenance equipment, and occasional maintenance of some heavy equipment. Applicant must have considerable knowledge of methods and procedures to repair rebuild or replace various components of automobiles, light trucks and trailers, grounds maintenance equipment, emergency response light vehicles, or other small equipment, ability to navigate and understand diagnostic flow charts, electrical diagrams and hydraulic circuit diagrams. Law Enforcement Vehicle Technician certification is desirable.
The Equipment Mechanic II position is responsible for the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of a wide variety of light and heavy equipment and vehicles. Applicant must have considerable knowledge of methods and procedures to repair, rebuild or the replacement of the various components vehicles and heavy equipment, ability to navigate and understand diagnostic flow charts, electrical diagrams and hydraulic circuit diagrams. Fire Apparatus Technician Level II or Ambulance Technician Level II is desirable.
Applicant must have basic knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety procedures and Federal and State transportation regulations as pertains to the trade. Experience with Faster Fleet Management Software (Faster Web) is preferred.
COMPENSATION:
This position is a classified and non-exempt position with a pay range of $23.75/hr. ($49,400/annually) to $33.76/hr. ($70,220 annually) for an Equipment Mechanic I, or $28.30/hr. ($58,864 annually) to $42.06/hr. ($87,485 annually) for an Equipment Mechanic II, both contingent upon the candidate’s related skills, knowledge, and abilities.
