Title: IN-ISP Equipment Mechanic Trainee (730304)Location: 8500 E. 21ST Street, Indianapolis, IN 46219 Interview: Webcam onlyTo serve as a civilian employee of the Indiana State Police whose primaryresponsibility is to keep all state owned commissions in the best possiblemechanical operating condition.RESPONSIBILITIES• Perform preventive maintenance as needed.• Complete assigned repair work as required.• Notify appropriate personnel on any visible major problems.• Keep work orders up to date.• Order parts and maintain garage stock room.• Keep area of assignment clean and orderly.• Assist in unloading the supply truck and loading old tires, empty oil drumsetc.• Periodically complete training for new procedures and skills needed tomaintain state owed commissions.DUTIES• Perform the following repairs or preventative maintenance work on any of thefollowing: 3-prong accessories, antennas, camera systems, deck lights,flashlight systems, fuses, light bars, mirror lights, motorcycle and trailerwiring, computer docking station and radio equipment.• Maintain various logs.• Use diagnostic equipment to trouble-shoot and find problems in the commission.• Test drive commission to ensure it is in working order.• Perform building custodian duties as required by the Division or DistrictCommander.• Perform other duties as required.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB REQUIREMENTS• Must be a high school graduate or possess GED certificate.• Must have a valid Indiana driver's license.• Ability to lift and move heavy automotive objects.• Ability to communicate and follow instructions.• Ability to distinguish and determine colors and sounds.• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.• Ability to work in close and confined areas.• Ability to maintain confidentiality.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB REQUIREMENTS (continued)• Must be able to diagnose problems on the commissions.• Must be able to operate any of the assigned tools and equipment and useautomotive shop manuals.• Must be able to complete any of the assigned repair jobs to includemechanical, electrical, hydraulic and computer.• Must be able to use diagnostic testing equipment to troubleshoot and findproblems.PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS• Work with Department personnel.• Work with auto dealers service departments, body shops and otherprofessionals.PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT• Work is normally performed in a garage environment.• Routinely requires standing on cement for extended periods, working in closeand confined areas, with exposure to hazardous materials and potentiallydangerous equipment.• Work involves sitting, standing, crouching, kneeling and periodic lifting ofheavy objects.
