ORDER OF PREFERENCE: The selection for Maintenance and Construction is made on the basis of fitness and ability with preference given to: Maintenance and Construction District, System-Wide (L689), Authority-Wide and external candidates, respectively.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
+ High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED
Experience
_12 months after an employee achieves a particular grade level (i.e., Grades D, C, B, A, and AA), he/she shall advance to the next grade level provided he/she has taken and passed the required written or practical test(s), acquired the required certifications and has met the other requirements, including acceptable fitness for duty, work record and job performance requirements._
+ Level D
+ Must have two (2) years of experience as an Equipment Operator or related role
+ Level C
+ Must have three (3) years of experience as an Equipment Operator or related role
+ Level B
+ Must have four (4) years of experience as an Equipment Operator or related role
+ Level A
+ Must have five (5) years of experience as an Equipment Operator or related role
+ Level AA
+ Must have six (6) years of experience as an Equipment Operator or related role
Certification/Licensure
+ Level A/AA :
+ Valid Commercial Driver¿s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements from jurisdiction of residence allowing the operation of vehicles over 26,001 gross vehicle weight 90 days of appointment or completion of applicable training period.
+ Required to obtain and maintain a minimum Level II Roadway Worker Protection (RWP) certificate within two weeks of hire.
+ Level B/C/D
+ Valid Driver¿s License from jurisdiction of residence.
+ Required to have and maintain a safe driving record with no more than 4 points accumulated over the past 3 years.

+ Vocational or technical training: Satisfactory completion of a training program in track maintenance, heavy equipment operation, or a related field.
Medical Group:

Mission Essential Designation:
In accordance with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority¿s Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) this job has been identified as critical to mission essential functions. Incumbents in this role may be required to report to or continue to work in the event of authorized office closings or service suspensions due to severe weather, natural disaster, fire, operational emergencies or related events.
SUMMARY
The Equipment Operator is assigned elementary to complex track and structure maintenance and repair work utilizing on and off-track heavy equipment in subways, on aerials and on ballasted track sections. Employees are expected to gain familiarity with and develop skills for track and structures repair utilizing on and off-track heavy equipment. Routine assignments are performed independently. All important aspects of the work are subject to detailed and specific procedures which the employee follows closely. Job Levels: At each successive grade level of this job (i.e., Grades D, C, B, A and AA), the incumbent is expected to demonstrate increased, distinguishing levels of proficiency and efficiency in knowledge, skills and abilities when performing the assigned duties and essential functions described in this job description.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
+ Performs preventive, scheduled, unscheduled or corrective maintenance in subways, on aerials, and on ballasted track sections by, loading, unloading, removing, repairing, installing using on and off-track heavy equipment to ensure rail infrastructure is maintained in a state of good repair.
+ Performs repairs of the infrastructure that requires the employee to work on the ground in the capacity of Track repairer, laborer and assists other classifications as needed to ensure rail infrastructure is maintained in a state of good repair.
+ Completes required documentation for equipment defects to report the repair and maintenance of Pettibone and Swingmaster speedswings, tie handlers, tie inserters, tamping machines, prime movers, locomotives, 20-ton crane, rail grinder and other on and off track heavy equipment and prepares requisitions for parts from supply storerooms, to ensure equipment is safe for use and fully operational.
+ Sets up and works from specialized equipment as required in assigned work to ensure rail infrastructure is maintained in a state of good repair.
+ Attends on the job and formal training classes, to prepare to perform necessary maintenance activities safely and efficiently.
+ Assists individuals in higher job levels in their assignments and/or provide job specific training to lower job levels to gain in field knowledge of various maintenance activities and/or provide opportunities for lower-level jobs to gain field knowledge.
+ Maintains and makes minor repairs on track equipment as required to ensure equipment is safe for use and fully operational.
+ Responds to and provides assistance in snow emergencies and emergencies which require repairs to track, or structures involved in incidents, accidents or derailments, to ensure revenue service is restored safely and efficiently.
+ Operates Authority non-revenue vehicles between work locations, in order to move materials and coworkers to and from job locations.
