The City of Torrance is recruiting for a Equipment Operators to be part of the Public Works Team!
The Department
The Public Works Department is a dynamic organization that readily adapts to the needs of the Torrance Community in providing quality and reliable service to the public. The department is made up of over 200 employees within five distinct divisions who provide service to our residents, businesses, and other City departments to improve and maintain the City's streets, sidewalks, landscaping, traffic, sewers, waste collection, and water systems.
The Division
The Street Operations Division maintains over 800 miles of streets and over 500 miles of curbs, gutters, and sidewalks. Public Works also maintains storm water basins (sumps) and open ditches. This includes filling potholes, patching streets, repairing City parking lots, as well as assisting in larger capital improvement projects. We also maintain State highways that run through our city. The Division is made up of three sections: Street Maintenance, Concrete and Traffic and Lighting.
The Position
The Street Maintenance Unit is recruiting an Equipment Operator who can safely drive and operate a broad range of trucks and construction equipment to support maintenance and repair of City streets. Operating equipment includes truck/trailer combination vehicles, track and rubber-tire front-end loaders, loader with an asphalt zipper, grader, dump trucks, skip loaders, tractors, rollers, backhoes, berm machines, knuckle boom trucks, and pavers. An Equipment Operator's responsibility is to safely load, secure, and transport materials, equipment, and supplies to and from work sites.
