Herzog Services, Inc. is currently seeking Equipment Systems Technicians in St. Joseph, MO.
Duties and Responsibilities:
*This is a non-exhaustive overview of the job duties for this position.
- Test, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair issues related to electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
- Conduct preventative maintenance on all current railroad test equipment.
- Build new railroad test equipment
- Keep a clean and productive work environment
- Assist in maintaining existing ultrasonic equipment
- Verify test vehicles serviceability by conducting inspections (Rail check, Hyrail)
- Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
- Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.

Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must be willing to work extended and off hours as needed.
- Basic math skills and mechanical aptitude.
- Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics is preferred.
- Problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Extensive knowledge of operating general shop equipment and tools.
- Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical drawings/blueprints.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing using the English language.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Must be self-motivated and a quick learner.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
- Pass and maintain e-RAILSAFE pre-employment background check and safety certification.
- Subject to motor vehicle report review.
- Maintain valid driver’s license and endorsements as required per position.
- Pass pre-employment DOT physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
- This position requires you to pass and maintain a DOT medical evaluation to drive a Herzog commercial vehicle.
- Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described below must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this role. This position will be physically demanding at times. This is a non-exhaustive overview of the physical requirements for this position.
- Exposure to outside/inside environments, medium lighting and high noise levels.
- Exposure to all weather conditions including extreme cold, snow and rain.
- Will be required to bend, stoop, stand, and climb in performing daily tasks and activities.
- Required to wear safety apparel and equipment while performing job duties.
- Must be able to lift components from the ground to shoulder height that can weigh up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to ascend and descend the side and back of the truck where the first step can be 24 inches off the ground.
- Must be able to squat or kneel and stay in that position for 5 minutes.
- Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds of weight 20 feet.
- Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces.
- Must be able to hold 8 pounds test wheel, while kneeling, with arms extended out in front of you for 10 seconds.
- Must be able to grasp or squeeze various equipment and tools requiring forces up to 50 pounds up to 25 times per hour.
- Must be able to ascend a ladder 4 steps with a first stop of 18 inch up to 25 times a day.
- Lift a 50 pound battery from the ground to chest height and horizontally transfer it 4 ft.
- Must be able to look to their right and left sides, turning their necks for a total of 180 degree of movement several times per hour.
- Must be able to lift 50 pound Hyrail Wheel off ground to waist level.
- Carry a weight of 50 pounds a distance of 10 feet.
- Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
- Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals.
