ER Registration Specialist

A Brief Overview
The ER Registration Specialist enters and verifies demographic and insurance information, identifies and collects patient and financial obligations, and registers or admits the patient. This position is customer service driven and the individual must have the ability to effectively promote a positive patient and family experience, exhibit empathy, engage in compassionate collections and demonstrate strong communication skills.
What you will do
- Obtain and verify patient identity, demographic and registration information; effectively communicate the purpose for and the requirements of all patient required documents
- Collects patient financial responsibilities when applicable (e.g. copay, deductible, co- insurance, self-pay rates and any outstanding balances for HN and HN physicians
- Explains and obtains necessary signatures from patient on the appropriate releases and consent forms
- Prepares ID bracelet, verifies information prior to placing armband on the patient
- Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of registration procedures and policies
- Has understanding of computer software and printers utilized to perform daily functions
- Answers telephone and other incoming communications in a timely and customer- service oriented manner
- Must communicate with nurses/doctors when applicable in a professional manner and maintain professional at all times while on hospital grounds
- Demonstrates ability to recognize priorities and deal with them promptly
- Exhibits good organizational and time management skills which contribute to the operations efficiency
- Prioritizes/organizes work assignments and adjusts priorities based on changing situations
- Inputs patient data into computer network according to department policy and procedure. Utilizes scheduling and document management systems
- Performs duties in an independent manner with little need of direct supervision
- Performs all duties as requested by management teams
Education Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience Qualifications
- 1-3 years Experience with computerized data entry Required
- 1-3 years Minimum - One (1) year of experience in a customer service related field Required
- 1-3 years One (1) year of experience in a healthcare, call center, business, financial or insurance related field. Preferred
