About The Position
**Job Title:** Registered Nurse **Job Specialty:** Emergency Department **Job Duration:** Not specified **Shift:** Night, 13 shifts per schedule, alternating weekends and holidays **Guaranteed Hours:** Not specified **Experience:** One year of acute care nursing experience preferred **License:** Current New York RN license/registration **Certifications:** - BLS certification (through American Heart Association) - ACLS certification (through American Heart Association) - PALS certification (through American Heart Association) **Must-Have:** - Graduate from an accredited school of nursing - BSN required for RNs hired after 2018 - Knowledge of current nursing, medical, and health trends and practices in patient care **Job Description:** - Provide direct patient care and collaborate with patients, family/significant others, peers, physicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team. - Assess patients' needs, plan care, implement, and evaluate the medical and nursing regimens. - Demonstrate leadership skills and commitment to professional accountability and growth. - Utilize the nursing process to meet age-specific needs in all aspects of care: biophysical, psychosocial, education, safety/environment, and discharge planning. - Utilize appropriate steps in decision-making processes related to patient care and unit-based issues. - Collaborate and communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary health care team. - Integrate patient rights and nursing ethics into practice. - Adhere to infection control standards to minimize the risk of infections. - Follow the principles of National Patient Safety Goals. - Delegate activities to ancillary staff appropriately. - Support and promote the Professional Nursing Practice Model and Magnet model. - Participate in performance improvement initiatives and complete competency requirements. - Attend mandatory in-services and staff meetings as required or requested. - Utilize cost containment practices and assume charge nurse responsibilities. - Perform other related duties as assigned. - Participate in department and unit orientation programs. - Complete de-escalation training within one year of hire for the Emergency Department. **Core Competencies:** - Teamwork and adaptability - Professional role modeling - Assessment skills - Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) - Attention to detail - Planning and organizing - Sound problem-solving, judgment, and decision-making skills - Stress tolerance **Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements:** - Ability to move freely about 85% of the time. - Remain stationary for extended periods. - Frequently move objects up to 50 pounds and assist patients as needed. - Work in an environment with continuous interruptions. - Assess and respond to rapidly changing situational needs. - Adapt to a high-stress and fast-paced environment. - Detect sounds and respond to emergency signals. - Operate computers and equipment. - Concentrate on fine details with interruptions for extended periods. - Understand and relate to theories behind several related concepts and remember multiple tasks daily. **Primary Population Served:** - Neonatal (birth to 28 days), Infant (29 days to less than 1 year), Pediatric (1 to 12 years), Adolescent (13 to 17 years), Adult (18 to 64 years), Geriatric (65 years and over) - Patients with exceptional communication needs - Patients with developmental delays - Patients at end-of-life - Patients under isolation precautions - Patients with cultural needs - Bariatric patients with weight-related comorbidities - Non-patient care population (The responsibilities and tasks outlined in this job description are not exhaustive and may change as determined by the needs of the employer.)
