Overview
Adult English Language and Literacy (AELL) is the direct service provider of ESOL and adult literacy instruction for the Library. Professional teachers facilitate free instruction to adult patrons in reading, writing, speaking and listening from a 0 to 8th grade level in both in-person and online classes. Instruction is offered in 3, 10-week cycles and 1, 4-week summer cycle.

Responsibilities
- Teach ESOL classes that promote English language proficiency and digital literacy for students assessed at NRS levels 1-6
- Follow the prescribed curriculum in a communicative language teaching environment during class-time
- Submit lesson plans that demonstrate communicative language teaching in alignment with the prescribed curriculum
- Instruct adult ESOL students in classes and learning experiences, which will lead to the achievement of their educational and personal goals
- Assist in the managed enrollment process to recruit students and maintain student records
- Participate in prescribed professional development pertaining to adult basic education and Library strategic priorities
Required Education, Experience & Skills
Required Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree required, with training and/or experience in ESOL
Required Experience
- Minimum 1 year of experience teaching adults in both in-person and online settings
- Successfully demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Zoom
- Successfully demonstrated knowledge of technology-assisted learning, instructional software, video, audio and distance learning.
- Lesson plan creation using a backward design approach
- Experience administering standardized assessments
Required Skills
- Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work well with a variety of people, in a multicultural setting, involving a variety of team situations.
- Ability to meet deadlines for administrative tasks.

The fall 2024 instructional cycle runs October 8-December 20 . Winter cycle runs February 3-April 5. Spring cycle runs April 28-June 30 and Summer cycle runs July 28- August 24. Additional hours may be available between instructional cycles to assist with new student testing and placement, but are not guaranteed. Extra hours are made available based on Best Plus and TABE Administrator certification, student demand, and budget availability.
