Estimator – Construction Projects
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Estimator to join our clients team. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing budgets, estimates, and pre-bid packages for commercial construction projects of various sizes. You will lead the estimation process from start to finish, collaborating with project management and the estimating team to ensure accuracy, compliance, and profitability.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with estimators and project management teams to develop detailed estimates for schematic, design development, and construction documents.
- Lead the estimating team, ensuring timely roll-out and execution of the entire estimate deliverable process.
- Analyze drawings and specifications to ensure all required documentation is present, determining the scope of work.
- Develop full-scope estimates, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Critically analyze bid documents to identify risks, opportunities, and areas of concern, and communicate findings to management.
- Organize the bid team, providing leadership and direction with regard to means, methods, schedules, and strategy.
- Participate in technical proposals for Alternative Delivery projects and lead quantity take-offs for specific trades as required.
- Create detailed crew and production cost estimates; review and finalize pricing with the estimating team.
- Solicit and analyze subcontractor and vendor pricing input when required.
- Attend project site pre-bid meetings, site tours, and post-bid interviews.
- Develop accurate unit costs and perform plan reviews when required.
- Accurately assess and plan takeoff workloads for the team.
- Gather and monitor actual costs vs. estimated costs to maintain project cost history for future estimates.
- Manage and maintain the subcontractor database and prequalification process.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with customers, design teams, subcontractors, and suppliers, ensuring that company core values are reflected in all interactions.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Construction Estimator with 10+ years in preconstruction, estimating, or operations for commercial construction projects.
- Basic understanding of accounting principles and project management concepts.
- Strong analytical skills, with a deep understanding of research methodology, data analysis, and estimation metrics.
- Proficient in bid software and comfortable with technology.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong communication and negotiation abilities.
- Ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Science, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Proficiency in the following software: Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and Takeoff software.
- Ability to read architectural plans and develop detailed cost estimates.
- Strong understanding of commercial construction.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
- Strong customer service skills and ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders.
