ETL Developer
Location: Whitehouse station , NJ
Duration: 6 months to Right to hire
Job description:
The ETL developer will design, develop, implement, maintain, and support data quality and business intelligence initiatives for the Information Management Group. This position requires a diverse set of technical skills, leadership skills, and knowledge. The ideal candidate will have experience on a large scale multi-tiered data warehouse, with hands-on design and construction of mart components. Warehouse development experience and an understanding of the concepts is a plus.
The primary application to be supported is BAR, a business analytics and reporting system under the Atlas umbrella – A data warehouse for premium, claims, and reinsurance information. Responsibilities include data source identification, data analysis, data profiling, production support, technical design and specifications, coding, testing and implementation. It also requires directing the work of off-shore resources. Candidate must have advanced Informatica expertise as well as advanced SQL skills. Experience with Netezza is preferred. Exposure to Unix, Autosys, Cognos, Azure is a plus. Understanding of insurance data is highly desired.
Specific responsibilities are:
· Primary support for the production jobs during business hours. Some off-hour support will be required on a rotating basis
· Establish work estimates based on business requirements
· Develop high/low level designs and technical specifications that can be accurately executed by offshore outsourced resources.
· Serve as technical lead for projects, enhancements, and production. Provide direction, leadership, and mentorship to offshore ETL resources to ensure quality of deliverables.
· Validate accuracy/quality of code of others. Ensure technical specifications are met.
· Provide hands-on design, development and testing for the most complex work.
· Coordinate/lead production implementations to ensure smooth and quality releases.
· Provide direction and guidance for the tuning of existing code. Recommend improvements and direct work effort to achieve desired results.
· Find opportunities to increase speed and quality of output. Must be able to articulate ideas and turn those ideas into new capabilities, performance improvements, quality improvements, etc.
Technical skills:
· Strong scripting/SQL skills to perform data/file validation, analysis, profiling etc.
· Expert Informatica skills required.
· Netezza experience preferred. Must have worked on ETL efforts involving a relational database.
· Must have an ability to create, read, understand, and interpret Data Models
Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
· Strong background in Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence environment working with large data sets.
· Strong collaboration with management, peers, and external teams
· Excellent communication/interpersonal skills, with experience coordinating ETL work with an onshore/offshore vendor team.
· Flexibility to manage work schedule as needed to support onshore/offshore model.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills
· Excellent problem solving skills. Applies technical knowledge to determine solutions and solve complex problems.
· Proven ability to create and maintain documentation (ETL designs, technical specs, test cases, test results, project status, deployment plans, etc.)
Education / Experience:
· Bachelor's degree
· 4+ years in software development and/or IT
· Demonstrated hands-on ETL/technical leadership on a large scale DW or Mart initiative
· Understanding of insurance information data/information needs/analytics desired

Develop/Manage and debug Informatica mappings. Involves looking at issues, identifying the root cause and make fixes
Autosys
Create/Alter Autosys schedule and monitor jobs during the day
Data analysis - SQL
SQL proficiency. We use Netezza DB but the requirement is for the person to be comfortable with SQL to identify issues and data anomalies and be able to create script to fix data.
