Event Technical Director - VIVA Creative

About the Job
VIVA is seeking a Full-Time Technical Director to support Live and Virtual Event productions globally. This position is responsible for all technologies involved in such productions including but not limited to lighting, sound, video, scenic, tradeshow, exposition, broadcast, and streaming event production.
This position will work from our Rockville, MD office and require travel.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Creative team and Executive Producer to determine the necessary technical support required for any assigned project
- Coordinate with vendors to ensure the proper design and execution of the project's full technical needs, including but not limited to scenic, video, audio, lighting, rigging, streaming, and special effects
- Work with the Executive Producer to ensure project remains on budget
- Create and maintain CAD drawings for the project including referencing vendor drawings
- Evaluates vendor proposals to ensure that best practices for time, equipment, and safety management are followed
- Coordinates on-site schedules so all technical and creative staff work in a cohesive manner
- Responsible for on-site management of all technical teams during load-in, execution of the show, and load-out.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in live and/or virtual event production
- Understanding of lighting, audio, video, computer networking, and scenic technical equipment, and systems used for both live and virtual events
- Highly organized, adaptable, and creative
- Willingness to travel
- Willingness to work nights and weekends as needed
Requirements:
- Technical Theatrical/Media/Communications Degree (or equivalent practical experience)
- Proficiency in at least one Computer Aided Design program (Vectorworks preferred)
- Proficient in the operation of both MAC and PC computers
- Understanding of IP networks (Internet, Intranet, VPN, Dante, NDI, etc…)
- Understanding of current best practices and programs for virtual events
- Understanding of life safety standards as defined by the NFPA
- Valid Driver's License and Passport or the ability to get one
- Microsoft Office, iWork, and Google Suite proficiency
