SUMMARY:
Oversees operational needs of the Environmental Services. Coordinates the tasks of the subordinate supervisory staff. Assures that staff is trained in accordance with Joint Commission, Department of Health, CAL OSHSA guidelines. Schedules staff to meet the needs of the facility doing so in line with budgetary constraints. The EVS Manager will serve as a liaison between administration and departments and provide the highest possible level of service.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee labor and non-labor departmental budgets.
- Establish and annually review standards and work procedures for all departments, staff in accordance with established policies and practices of the hospital.
- Plan work schedules, hours, areas of work and job duties to ensure adequate services are rendered to all areas.
- Interview, select, hire, evaluate and recommend termination of facility department personnel in accordance with the hospital standards.
- Orient, train (develop) and supervise of all supervisory staff.
- Plan, coordinate, execute and document all new-hire initial training to include (1) clinic orientation, (2) department orientation and (3) competencies.
- Plan, coordinate, execute and document department safety training in such learning fundamentals as SDS, RACE, Infection Control, Body Mechanics, Safety, Domestic Violence, Age Specific Protocols, Hospital and Department P&P, and any other Hospital or company-mandated training programs. Training to be provided to new-hires and annual compliance require modules.
- Regularly inspect and evaluate physical condition of facility; recommend painting, department equipment, repairs and furnishings.
- Provide monthly administrative progress reports relative to short-term accomplishments, future short-term plans and staff education/training.
- Supervise the relocation and storage of all furnishings and equipment as well as the relocation of space to improve the sanitation and appearance of the facility.
- Report unsafe conditions and conduct research to improve EVS technology.
- Conduct regular staff meetings and communicate with members of other departments to coordinate EVS activities.
- Collect supervision rounds forms and supervision team meeting minutes’ forms; compile, review and present to Department Head.
- Coordinate and compile results of special "QA and Infection Control monitoring instrument programs" as required.
- Present materials at Infection Control/QA meetings at assigned.
- May serve on facility-wide committee.
- Schedule major project work, assuring that adequate staff and supplies are available to perform said tasks.
- Conduct regular inventory of EVS supplies and order same, keeping costs in line with approved budgetary amounts.
- Maintain and support facility goals and objectives as they relate to third party patient survey process.
- Coordinate all outside services relative to the EVS department (i.e. Pest Control, Window Cleaning, Medical Waste, Solid Waste, Document Destruction and Recycling program).
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates’ degree preferably.
- 3 years of experience in related field required.
- 1 - 2 years of supervisory experience in environmental service or service-related field with high customer/client contact required.
- Demonstrated progressive growth in the field of health care EVS facility maintenance.
- Ability to communicate effectively in written format and oral presentations.
- Ability to multi-task and establish priorities.
- Ability to maintain organization in a changing environment.
- Exhibit initiative, responsibility, flexibility and leadership.
- Possess a thorough knowledge of contract administration and office procedures.
- Ability to use knowledge of working environment to meet established goals and objectives.
- Proficient in the use of Window based office software including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Bilingual English and Spanish strongly preferred.
