Exercise Physiologist - UW Health Northern Illinois

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides education and rehabilitation services to patients and their families in the cardiopulmonary rehabilitation setting to patients with both cardiac and pulmonary disease.

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science/Physiology/Kinesiology or Health Education with an emphasis in Exercise Science. 

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

BLS certification required

ACSM Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist (ACSM-CEP) within one year of hire.

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Successful completion of annual clinical, age and job specific competencies and skill verification tools required.  Good interpersonal skills and ability to deal with all levels within the organization and community under varied conditions.  Excellent verbal, written, organizational and critical decision-making skills required.  Strong leadership and adult education skills necessary. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Coordinates and cares for patients in inpatient and outpatient CardioPulmonary Rehabilitation utilizing specialized clinical expertise and resources to facilitate a high level of participant satisfaction and quality outcomes.  Performs all aspects of care in an environment that optimizes patient and environmental safety and in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and compliance efforts.  

1. Assist, monitors, and prescribes exercise for participants based on established department policies and ACSM guidelines. Creates and maintains patient individualized treatment plans in accordance with guidelines.

1. Coordinates and conducts education for the cardiac and pulmonary rehab specific population based on patient needs.

1. Monitors and accurately documents patient response and progression to therapy, maintaining confidentiality of information and communicates appropriately to physician or other appropriate member of interdisciplinary team.

1. Provides accurate documentation and billing throughout program.

1. Demonstrates critical thinking skills and exercises sound judgement in evaluating and responding to emergent situations. 

1. Shares expertise and knowledge with staff, developing their clinical, technical and professional skills and participating in the instruction and validation of technical competency within the department.
