Summary Description
The Assistant Facilities Manager works closely with the Facilities Team Manager in leading the maintenance team as well as completing tasks that include repairs and renovations of buildings/grounds, plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems as well as responding to emergencies while still providing a safe and clean environment. Additional duties include but are not excluded to the supervision of vendors, contractors and staff. This position will also interact with other departments, including the events department in all areas but not limited to set up and take down of furniture/equipment for special events on or off campus grounds, deliveries of various equipment and other duties as reasonably assigned.
Essential Functions and Specific Duties
- Assist the facilities manager in reviewing, prioritizing, and assigning work to the facilities department.
- Assist with oversight and management of daily operations consisting of corrective and preventive maintenance for all building systems, including automation controls and valves also relating to HVAC, electrical, piping/plumbing systems.
- Respond to emergency or urgent situations quickly including during off duty hours.
- Ensure all work that is done on campus is done safely and that all members of their department are trained in the safety protocols of the School.
- Assist with management, supervision, and closing out work that is conducted by outside contractors.
- Assist the department leadership in ensuring timely and accurate completion of tasks in collaboration and proactive team approach
- Assist with monitoring work areas and examination of systems to ensure safe conditions or to detect violations of procedures or safety rules.
- Assist and execute with planning, scheduling and coordination of general maintenance, major repairs, and remodeling or construction projects for properties.
- With a hands-on approach, perform repairs and preventive maintenance procedures on campus buildings, grounds, equipment and systems, as assigned, to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, or the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate.
- Proactively monitor campus spaces to identify areas needing repair/maintenance and report all issues and challenges to Facilities Team Manager and/or appropriate management personnel, suggest potential resolutions, and provide assistance as appropriate.
- Actively assist the entire team with repair plaster and drywall, paint interior and exterior surfaces, and assist with other renovation or remodeling work including basic carpentry.
- When needed, proactively assist with setting up and removing chairs, tables, bleachers, stages, as well as audio visual equipment set up, support and take down for various campus events.
- Maintain a customer service-oriented department and interact with the School Community in a professional and courteous manner.
- Perform with a team approach, other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma required. College degree preferred.
- At least 5 years of experience in building maintenance and remodeling.
- Team lead or other equivalent experience is welcome.
- Experience with leading a team is preferred but not required.
- Basic proficiency with Google Workspace and aptitude for learning new technology.
- Experience with electrical and plumbing, pool operations, or HVAC experience are preferred.
- Ability to effectively troubleshoot electrical, plumbing and other facilities issues, and repair or assist in performing repairs as directed.
- Ability to read and interpret specifications, diagrams, instructions, and work orders and requests.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to proficiently utilize various hand and power tools, including but not limited to voltmeter, multimeter, power washer, grinder, welding torch, table saw and drill press, in performing assigned diversified maintenance tasks in a safe, timely, and effective manner.
- Valid driver’s license is a requirement.
- Familiarity with scheduling programs and other job-related software.
