Overview
Humbold Sawmill Company, LLC (HSC) is seeking an experience Facilities Maintenance Supervisor to join our team based in Scotia, CA.
The base salary for this position is $70,000.00 to $85,000.00. Your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic locations, skills, education and/or experience. Please keep in mind that that the range published is the full base salary. We also offer a generous benefits package.
In aggregate, the Mendocino Companies (Mendocino Forest Products Company, Mendocino Redwood Company, Humboldt Redwood Company, Humboldt Sawmill Company, and Allweather Wood) own nearly 450,000 acres of Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC® C031337) certificated redwood and Douglas-fir timberland, constitute the largest waterborne wood treater in the Western USA, and is the largest producer of redwood lumber in the world. Collectively providing 950 employees and their families with excellent wages and benefits in communities throughout the Western USA. Additionally, the Mendocino Companies own and operate a 25-megaWatt biomass cogeneration power plant and wood pellet plant.
Responsibilities
Under the direction of Director of Operations, this position will supervise and manage the cleanup crews, to include mill and planer cleanup, as well as, all yard maintenance and Stormwater BMP maintenance.

- Directly supervise the cleanup crews in accordance with Company policies and applicable laws
- Coach employees for attainment of Company and individual goals and objectives in accordance with Company guidelines and performance management
- Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work
- Develop and execute plans to meet site specific goals and objectives.
- Carry out special projects as assigned.
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement and growth.
- Create work instructions and operating procedures for new or changed processes.
- Balances team and individual responsibilities; Contributes to building a positive team by example.
- Train new staff in proper policies and procedures, to ensure a safe working environment.
- Works closely with EHS.
- Maintaining up to date training for all staff on equipment as needed.
- Ensuring timekeeping and scheduling are accurate and up to date.
- Order supplies as needed for crew to complete jobs properly.
- Stay in communication with sawmill / planer maintenance staff.
- Review employee discipline and act accordingly.
- Maintain records for equipment used.
- Maintain upkeep on drains and Stormwater BMP.
- Interviewing and hiring of new staff.
- Analyze and resolve work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems
- Initiate or suggest plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals
- Confer with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments
- Possess the ability to multi-task while dealing with multiple, competing priorities
Qualifications
- While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit, stand; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, couch or crawl
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50
- May spend up to 75% of time reviewing operations inside the mill
- While performing the duties of this position, the employee will split his/her time between a typical mill office environment, inside and out.
- The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles while on the mill floor.
- The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, toxic or caustic chemicals
- The noise level in the office environment is usually moderate while the noise level in the mill dictates the necessity for hearing protection when working on the mill floor
- Specific vision abilities required by this position include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and ability to adjust focus and communicate
- This position frequently requires eye protection, hearing protection, leather or rubber gloves, safety vest, safety shoes, hard hat and fall protection as required
