The Facilities Maintenance Technician has responsibility and accountability for performing all preventative, on-demand and improvement maintenance activities. Additionally, the position is responsible for the upkeep, on-going maintenance and improvement of safety and security equipment. This position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor position or designee.
Responsibilities:
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repairs to building systems - systems will include but not be limited to single and III-phase electrical, lighting, HVAC, boilers, plumbing, back-up power and life safety
- Perform monitoring and troubleshooting of critical systems, make repairs, or refer problem to the Maintenance Manager
- Review all work and assure performance in accordance with established safety procedures, Standard Operation Procedures(SOP), and compliant with Quality Management System
- Conduct frequent inspections of facility, facility grounds and equipment
- Perform monthly preventive maintenance tasks and reactive work orders as assigned
- Report equipment, facility, and/or safety issues to the Maintenance Manger
- Maintain all appropriate paperwork, and record keeping, including daily logs, timesheet, routine, and non-routine maintenance records
- Assist with miscellaneous building projects, including painting, drywall, carpentry, installation of fixtures, and equipment relocation
- Emergency response – after hours calls on a rotating schedule
- Maintain inventory of spare parts or supplies based on actual and/or projected usage
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Must have high school diploma (or equivalent) and current experience in facility operations and maintenance. Advanced training or certifications in electrical, HVAC, or steam boilers a plus
- Working knowledge of various hand and power tools, pumps, fans, blowers, and control valves
- Basic understanding of HVAC, steam boilers and facility environmental control systems
- Must be able to communicate with coworkers effectively, both verbal and written
- Maintain tools, and supplies in a clean, orderly, safe condition
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision and direction
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
Additional Requirements:
- Overtime and weekend work as required (on-call)
- Work may require the use of PPE (personal protective equipment)
- Work may require lifting, standing, and working around laboratory animals
- Ability to read and understand information presented orally and in writing
- Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs.
- Must have good documentation practices
*This position could be offered at different levels for candidates who qualify with a combination of advanced levels of education and/or years of experience. The salary range will adjust along with the level of the role to match the person’s relevant experience and/or education level.
