Pay Range: $23.7290 – $34.4070 Hourly / $49,356.32 – $71,566.56 Annually
Non-Negotiable Starting Pay: $23.7290 Hourly / $49,356.32 Annually
Characteristics of the Job
Under close supervision of the Facilities Manager, performs manual unskilled and semi-skilled work in building maintenance and routine landscaping. Specific instructions are given on each new or unusual assignment and work is regularly checked by the supervisor for quality, quantity and safety of operation and care of equipment.
Examples of Duties
- Assist with basic grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming, mulching, flower bed cultivation and maintenance, and snow and ice removal on sidewalks and in parking lots.
- Operate public works vehicles for snow removal and material handling.
- Perform basic building maintenance including painting, moving office furniture, unloading and delivery of supplies and materials.
- Assist skilled personnel in the maintenance, repair and improvement of buildings, including carpentry, painting, masonry, mechanical, plumbing or electrical.
- Clean and maintain equipment and facilities as necessary.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Training and Experience
High school diploma or GED equivalent; one (1) year experience in general manual work or grounds maintenance; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of basic maintenance and manual work tasks; operation and function of related hand and power tools; and safe work practices. Some knowledge of routine grounds and building maintenance methods and techniques.
Skill in customer service; effectively communicating with those contacted throughout the course of the workday; maintaining effective working relationships with other departments, agencies, employees, supervisors and members of the public; and in the safe and proper operation of equipment and hand tools.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ensure a safe work environment; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors and the general public; work varied shifts and standby; report to emergency work situations, including snow removal and storm cleanup.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Valid Illinois Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-B) with air brakes endorsement, or equivalent, within 60 days of hire.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to work under varied weather conditions.
Residency Requirement
AFSCME employees shall live within a 20-mile radius from the City’s Emergency Center, located at 1630 8th Avenue in Moline, within 180 days of hire.
