About the Job
Direct Engineering staff to assist in day-to-day operations and project completion. Manage, coordinate and monitor the maintenance, repair, construction and administrative activities of carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, general maintenance and heating, ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) trades. Collaborate with Engineering Department and other departments to inform them of necessary steps to complete capital and operational projects. Requisition relevant supplies and tools for repairs, maintenance and trades.
Responsibilities:Manager of Engineering Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership to all direct reports, including performance management and feedback, and formal annual performance reviews.
- Mentor all new and existing staff to help maximize abilities.
- Responsible for hiring, counseling, and discipline of department staff according to HSL established policies.
- Participate in the recruitment process to ensure that the department is adequately staffed.
- Objectively evaluate employee performance and competencies that provide constructive feedback
- Foster and encourage teamwork among associates
- Respond to emergency calls, including repairs to medical equipment.
- Work from written and electronic requisitions, or verbal instructions
- Ensure compliance with the requirements of the regulatory and accreditation agencies
- Monitor production, workflow and time schedule. Make changes as needed to improve efficiency and quality of work performed by trade personnel
- Perform weekly quality assurance on all work orders, and all preventive maintenance work orders
- Ensure facility related spaces, work areas and equipment are kept in a clean and orderly condition following prescribed safety regulations
- Inventory stock and requisition supplies as needed to maintain adequate supply.
- Ensure that the average completion rate of work orders is at an acceptable rate
- Coordinate planning, scheduling and implementation of activities to accomplish work in cooperation with other sections of the department and/or facility departments and services
- Assist in the development of capital and operating expense budget
- Provide technical assistance to trades personnel
- Communicate clearly with other departments to ensure that projects are carried out effectively with little disruption to the affected department
- Maintain budget requirements for operations and capital
- Keep department overtime to a minimum; use it for snow removal and emergency calls
- Ensure the continued education of the department staff through training for their specific trade
- Analyze trends and data to ensure systems and equipment are operationally sound
- Update current and write new policies and procedures clearly and concisely and ensure staffs’ full understanding and follow through.
- Use appropriate judgment and latitude to make decisions and solve problems. Fully research solutions and review options, including soliciting feedback from others, prior to making decisions.
- Schedule, coordinate, and delegate work to staff to ensure timely/efficient completion and quality results in order to meet goals and objectives of the organization. Reassign work to associates and provide sufficient notice.
- Work within OSHA Safety Standards
- Coordinate and manage the snow removal team; assist with snow removal as needed
- Assist in all other areas as needed
- Maintain the confidentiality and security of all facility and patient related information (HIPPA)
- Maintain a professional appearance at all times.
- Exchange and/or obtain information from patients’ families and visitors in a tactful and professional manner.
- Use appropriate grammar and writing styles to compose professionally written general correspondence.
- Expediently write effective proposals and/or reports that clearly communicate or summarize information and satisfy the requestor.
- Conduct meetings or lead group discussions in an effective and time-efficient manner.
- Notify Department Heads of any problems or delays in projects.
- Report any equipment found to be unsafe or broken immediately to supervisor
- Put customer service first. Ensure that patients and families receive the highest quality of service in a safe, caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals’ needs and rights
- Subject to being called in for emergencies
Lead Electrician Responsibilities:
- Review work orders and delegate assignments
- Coordinate schedules and projects with the Engineering Director
- Respond to call bells and patient requests
- Coordinate annual testing of all high voltage switchgear, and feed circuits to conform to all regulatory requirements
- Keep number of electrical outages to a minimum, keep affected department informed of these outages
- Determine backup emergency power needs
- Determine appropriate times for testing emergency power system and work with Maintenance Mechanics to perform the monthly load test of the emergency generator system.
- Actively participate in the implementation and ongoing evaluation of preventive maintenance systems.
- Work closely with the Engineering Director to provide for the electrical safety of all patients, visitors, and staff through an appropriately and safely maintained plant and environment as prescribed in the Massachusetts Electrical Code and NFPA Code requirements
- Maintain facility nurse-call system, paging, mechanical alarm and medical gas, medical air and medical Vac Systems
- Repair electric motors, controllers and other auxiliary electrical devices.
- Install new wiring, including concealed wiring, and electric machinery. Work from prints and diagrams to determine layout, location and specifications of items to install
- Bend and install conduit
- Carry Blanket Electrical Permit for HRC
- Isolate and repair defective circuits as required
- Dismantle electrical machinery and break connections; replace defective parts; reassemble and test for proper operation
- Check and repair lighting systems
- Maintain CATV cabling system throughout the facility when needed and troubleshoot the system to determine where problems or damage may have occurred
- Assist the fire alarm testing company as needed to maintain facility fire alarm system
- Maintain the facility’s electrical distribution systems according to the national, state and local electrical codes and facility regulatory agencies
- Maintain a safe electrical environment for facility staff, patients and visitors
Qualifications
Education level required
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Basic training in electrical, plumbing, heating, and HVAC systems
- Knowledgeable of safety requirements
Years of Experience
- Five years of experience as a licensed electrician
- One to three years of experience managing direct reports
Licensure/Board Certification
- MA Licensed as a Journeymen Electrician
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing or walking.
- Lifting pushing, pulling supplies and equipment.
- Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling and crouching.
- May need to work in extreme hot and cold temperatures
