Position Overview
The Facilities Department at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire a Facilities Planner to join our team.
Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
* Provide management oversight for all phases (programming, design construction) of the project, including coordinating consultants, contractors, material, and equipment, ensuring that specifications are being followed, and work is proceeding on schedule and within budget.
* Prepares estimates, drawings, and specifications to be accomplished by Facilities personnel or by contract.
* Work performed under the supervision of the Auxiliary Planning Manager.
* The project manager is expected to be a resource for others in the resolution of complex problems and issues.
* Assignments are broad in nature and usually require creativity and originality.
* Auxiliary Services summer projects requires flexible hours during the months of May thru August. Some irregular hours during these times will be required.
* Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or related field and four years' of professional related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Strong project management skills.
* Knowledge of appropriate safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.
* Ability to plan, design and prepare construction documents.
* Ability to analyze construction documents and codes.
Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:
* Proficient in AutoCAD/Revit , with ability to mentor student workers to increase their AutoCAD/Revit skills.
* Proficient in Sketch up.
* Proven relevant experience managing medium to large construction projects in the field.
* Experience with estimating and managing contractors and subcontractors.
* Experience working in a university setting or educational institution.
* Excellent communication, time management and organization skills.
* Knowledge and use of Microsoft Office products especially Excel for estimating.
* Ability to communicate with a wide variety of communication styles and able to communicate with personnel at all levels.
* Experience and knowledge of building codes, OSHA regulations, and construction industry standards.
* Possess a strong sense of customer service, and keen sense of responsiveness to concerns.
Required License/Registration/Certifications
Possession of a valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment; ability to drive a vehicle and maintain coverage under University liability insurance policy, if required to drive University vehicles.
Job Duties:
- Provides management oversight for all phases (programming design and construction) of complex interior renovation and site projects, including coordinating consultants, contractors, material, equipment, ensuring specifications are being followed, schedule is maintained and project is within budget.
- Provides management oversight for inhouse projects involving the development of estimates, schematic design, design development, and construction documents with specifications for construction and renovation projects.
- Coordinates with UNT departments, UNT systems ITSS, and facilities maintenance.
- Administrative: Utilizes project management software and CAD (AutoCAD/Revit) programs for project. Provides weekly project progress reports, state reporting, and backup documentation for various leadership review and approval.
- Consistently completes expected duties in a timely manner without constant supervision. Accepts responsibility for own work and follows through on commitments.
