Facility Associate (Part-Time) - Hunter Museum of American Art

About the Job
The Facility Associate has an important "hands on" role in the successful functioning of the Hunter Museum Campus. The position assists with the museum operations and objectives of the Maintenance/Facilities department, assists the Special Events department in executing rental events, works with the coordination of various other departments, as well as ensures proper preservation of all museum equipment through the implementation of accepted safety procedures to safeguard staff, visitors and museum property.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the maintenance and general cleaning of the buildings, grounds and systems to ensure a well running, problem free environment for employees, guests and visitors. Systems include HVAC, plumbing, electrical, security systems, emergency generators, roofs, exterior lighting, parking lot area, exterior paint, pest management, trees/landscaping, windows and bollards
- Daily inspections of museum campus, buildings and grounds should be conducted and any facility maintenance and repairs should be completed as needed and reported to both the Operations Manager and the Facility Manager
- Ensure the Cafe is cleaned prior to the start of the week and immediately following an event. Inspection of cleanliness made daily
- Assist in the management of our recycling program
- Must be able to manage work orders, housekeeping checklists and other facility assignments
- Maintain a professional relationships with vendors and contractors
- Works with both the Operations Manager and Facility Manager in adhering to annual facility/maintenance budget
- Perform work in a manner that fosters the museum's mission and reflects its core values and service standards
- Work with the Special Events Department in setting up, managing, breaking down and assisting with any facility needs during event rentals. This includes being on-site
- Work with the Education Department and various other departments to assist with both internal and external events
- Assist with opening and closing of museum as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Proven ability to lead through example and positive attitude
- Good communication skills that ensures effective and positive communication with Facility Manager, Operations Manager and co-workers
- Knowledge and experience in the many phases of facility operations
- Experience using tools and performing general repairs and maintenance
- Must be available to be on-call after hours to respond to emergency situations
- Good computer skills including technology, audio visual and ipads.
- High School Graduate preferred; minimum of 2 years progressively responsible experience in related field
- Some college preferred; comprehensive documented knowledge of methods and techniques of the trade (facilities, maintenance, safety, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.)
- Microsoft Office skills including Outlook, Word, Excel and Access
- Valid driver's license
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
Physical requirements include stooping, kneeling, bending, standing, squatting, crouching, crawling, kneeling, pushing, pulling, climbing (ladders), banner installs requiring heights and reaching above the shoulders and lifting up to 80 lbs. Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects such as furniture, file cabinets, equipment, boxes, etc. will be required.
Part-time, hourly; must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and be on-call after hours to respond to emergency situations.
