The role of a Fiber Optic Technician involves the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic cables, which are crucial for high-speed data transmission and communication infrastructure. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficiency and performance of telecom networks, internet connections, and various other communication systems that depend on fiber optic and cat 6 technology.
Job Overview:
The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting fiber-optic and Cat 6 cabling systems in residential and commercial buildings. The job requires attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and good communication skills.
Job Responsibilities:
- Install fiber optic and Cat 6 cabling in commercial buildings.
- Splicing and terminating fiber optic cables to improve network performance.
- Troubleshoot issues with existing cabling systems and make necessary repairs.
- Test cabling systems to ensure proper installation and performance.
- Read and interpret blueprints and schematic diagrams to plan cable installations.
- Communicate with customers to understand their needs and preferences.
- Collaborate with other installers and technicians to complete projects on time and within budget.
- Keep accurate records of work performed and materials used.
- Adhere to safety standards and protocols at all times.
Qualifications:
- Experience in fiber optics installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance preferred but not required. Will train a qualified candidate.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematic diagrams.
- Familiarity with testing equipment and methods for cabling systems.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under minimal supervision.
- Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work.
- Physical ability to climb ladders and lift heavy boxes.
- Valid drivers license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional weekends and evenings.
Working Hours:
The Fiber and Cat 6 Cable Installer will work 4 10-hour days. Occasional weekend and evening work may be required.
Salary and Benefits:
The starting pay for this position is $16-20/hour, depending on experience.
In addition, the company provides up to $50/week to cover meals. Other benefits may include health insurance, paid time off, and retirement savings plans.
