The general role of the Project Manager – Fiber Optics is to supervise and direct fiber optics project tasks, personnel, and requirements in a dedicated, organized, and efficient manner. The position must be detail oriented and performance driven to ensure that all project elements are synchronized and successfully completed.
The Project Manager is responsible for ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget by designating project resources, preparing budgets, monitoring progress, and maintaining open communication between customers and management.
The Project Manager reports to the Department Manager – Fiber Optics and works primarily out of the Knoxville location.
What You'll Do:
- Determine and define project scope, objectives, and plan and direct resources to ensure successful completion
- Review project designs and contribute ideas for cost savings
- Carry out daily operational tasks in an effective and timely manner
- Facilitate communications between office and field personnel
- Problem-solve issues and ensure continuous improvement
- Organize, file, and maintain all current project documents
- Enter information and manage the digital project databases
- Ensure compliance to necessary specifications
- Create cost estimates and manage to maintain budget, customer satisfaction and financial objectives
- Assist with setting prices and quote jobs to include material sales and project needs
- Coordinate and execute daily administrative tasks to include the processing of timecards, vehicle and equipment assignments, work in progress reports (WIPs), invoices, etc.
- Schedule and confirm deliveries to field staff
- Ensure project adheres to a set schedule and meets the goals of the client
- Schedule meetings, phone calls, site visits, etc.
- Consult with and gather information from technicians, engineers, contractors, etc. to ensure an effective flow of information
- Provide oversight and mentorship to the Assistant Project Manager as well as the Fiber Optics personnel
- Maintain positive vendor and client relationships
- Predict resources needed to reach objectives and manage resources in an effective and efficient manner
- Track project costs and maintain budget
- Develop and manage a detailed project schedule and work plan
- Provide project updates on a consistent basis regarding strategy, adjustments, and progress
- Ensure industry best practices, techniques, and standards throughout entire project execution
- Manage and supervise Field Personnel and ensure effective performance management

What You'll Bring:- 5+ years of project management and Fiber Optics or Telecommunications experience preferred
- Proven ability to solve problems creatively
- Strong familiarity with market, industry, project management software tools, methodologies, and best practices
- Proven ability to manage projects through the full life cycle
- Strong analytical and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational skills with an attention to detail
- Proven ability to complete projects according to scope, budget, and timeline
- Possesses exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of general accounting and costing practices including budgeting, invoicing, purchase orders, and accounts payable
- Able to work independently and in team environments
- Possess strong communication skills both verbal and written
- Able to compute basic math calculations and take measurements
- Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Visio
- Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects effectively
- Adaptable and calm under pressure
