The mission of the Knight Clinical Research Management organization is to support the conduct of translational clinical research aimed at improving the lives of people and families with cancer by applying innovative strategies for cancer prevention, screening, diagnosis and treatment. The support is provided through proactive, high quality and efficient study management in compliance with federal regulations and local policies and procedures. This fast-paced and intense research environment requires complex clinical research studies involving a very vulnerable and sick population. This position is responsible for managing key components of the conduct of clinical trials using Good Clinical Practice and for tracking and complying with clinical trial performance benchmarks, patient safety, staff development and training, and financial goals.
Function/Duties of Position:This Pre-Award Financial Analyst 2 collects data and works on varied phases of financial processes and analysis relating to clinical trial budgets. This role will specialize in the budget negotiation phase of pre-award.
The position plays a crucial role in clinical research finances by working with industry sponsors to negotiate robust study budgets that account for all research costs and personnel effort required to run a successful clinical trial. A robust study budget is critical to the success of our disease teams, in that they ensure that our teams can expend the appropriate and necessary resources to continue conducting clinical research and remain cost-neutral.
This role collaborates with Investigators and study teams to strategize for negotiations, field any escalation that may come during the negotiation, and ensure that we arrive at a final budget that meets the needs of the study teams conducting the research and the patients being treated on the study. Given that our clinical trials can last an average of four years, this role must be able to forecast current and future costs associated with the clinical trial.

Given this position's responsibilities, it is eligible for telework and can be done 100% remotely within the United States.
Required Qualifications:Education & experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from an accredited college or university AND
- Minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible relevant work experience.
- Prior Academic Health Center or relevant financial specific experience performing analysis related to operational improvements and business cases.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Highly proficient with use of PC including database and spreadsheet applications
- Intermediate spreadsheet skills, including complex functions, formulas, and formatting
- Familiarity with relational databases
- Understanding of financial reporting concepts such as cost accounting and net present value analysis
- Communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to consult with internal and external customers regarding matters/issues which may be sensitive in nature
- Knowledge or experience working in clinical research post-award finance
- Knowledge or experience working in oncology
- Knowledge or experience working in a clinical or research environment
- Experience with OHSU Financial systems, eCRIS, EPIC
- Highly skilled in MS Access
