Location: Minneapolis, MN, Hybrid 3 days in office requirement
Hiring Range: $27.10- $29.81 starting hourly rate will depend on your skills and demonstrated readiness for the role.
Hours/Day: Monday-Friday, 9:00am- 5:30pm- occasional evenings when necessary.

Essential Job Functions
Payroll Administration
- Administer and execute payroll processing for Canopy MHC and Canopy Roots using a 3rd party payroll platform, including reviewing and validating time entries, preparing and entering data, transmitting to payroll service, verifying payroll received, distributing paychecks and data downloading into company files.
- Act as the subject matter expert for time and attendance system processes and procedures, understanding all related pay benefits and policies
- Research and resolve payroll errors while developing processes to prevent future issues.
- Act as the first point of contact for staff for payroll-related questions and concerns
- Coordinate or prepare, review, and distribute annual Forms W-2, 1099, and other related governmental requirements
- Document and update the payroll process regularly for continuous improvement
Finance & Accounting
- Process accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely and accurate handling of bills and invoices
- Prepare monthly bank, credit card, and general ledger account reconciliations
- Assist with daily or periodic depositing of funds, including maintaining or modifying the current filing system
- Create and maintain a schedule of fixed assets and depreciation calculations
- Collaborate with finance staff to monitor overdue payments and support collections
- Collaborate with the Director of Finance on researching and gathering information for the yearly budget
Compliance & Reporting
- Collaborate with the Director of Finance to improve accounting and payroll policies and procedures
- Assist with audits and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local finance laws
- Collaborate with Director of finance for audits
- Work with external contractors to generate financial reports and submit taxes
- Support and document the month-end closing process
- Prepare reports and keep accurate records of finance-related activities
- Collaborate with external accounting contractors to generate financial reports and submit taxes
- Other finance support-related duties as assigned
Requirements

Minimum qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent education
- 4+ years of experience in payroll administration with a strong understanding of payroll cycles and processes.
- 2+ years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping, including managing accounts payable and receivable
- 1-2 years of experience in healthcare or a human services environment
- General working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures.
- Proficiency with financial and productivity software, including QuickBooks Online, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and Adobe
- Experience working with HRIS software such as Paycor or similar software
- Passionate and knowledgeable about providing culturally responsive services, equitable healthcare access, and social and economic challenges of the communities that Canopy serves
Preferred Qualifications
- CPP certification preferred
- Experience working with Electronic Medical Record systems
Physical Requirements
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copy machines and filing cabinets. This role must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.

Canopy Roots is an innovative mental health organization offering culturally affirming unarmed first responder services to people in crisis via 911 in the city of Minneapolis. We promote safety for people in crisis by providing emotional de-escalation strategies, crisis intervention support, and connection to appropriate resources.
