Financial Analyst - Heartland Human Care Services

Summary:

Under the general guidance of the Controller, the Financial Analyst provides accounting support for a portfolio of grants and contracts. Responsibilities include month end close procedures, assisting with financial planning and budgeting processes, analyzing financial statements and reports, and preparing projections. The Financial Analyst will also be responsible for providing program teams with financial guidance.

Essential Functions:

Duties & Responsibilities

• Maintains financial reports, records, and general ledger accounts.
• Prepares journal entries, analyses, and account reconciliations and assisting with monthly close processes.
• Contributes to the development and review of annual operating budgets and performance projections.

• Maintains documentation as needed.
• Performs monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
• Responds to information requests, reviewing financial statements, and assisting with audits.
• Grants management for a portfolio of awards. Includes budget preparation, cost projections, report preparation, and spending analysis.
• Meets processing and reporting deadlines for all assigned grants and contracts.
• Ensures compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), company policies, and relevant financial and legal regulations.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institute of higher learning in Accounting or Finance.
• Minimum two (2) years of experience in accounting or finance. Non-profit accounting experience is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (K/S/A):

• Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
• Working knowledge of OMB Circulars and Uniform Guidance.
• Highly proficient experience with Microsoft Excel.
• Excellent communication skills. Strong networker, convener, relationship builder and communicator with experience collaborating with diverse work teams and stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information possessing skills to handle situations in a professional and diplomatic manner.
• A high degree of collaboration and emotional intelligence, self-motivation, and analytical ability.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Outlook/Exchange; Windows operating systems; and other software routinely used by Heartland Human Care Services.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Ability to work independently and remain self-motivated with minimal direct supervision.
• Strategic thought partnership and consultancy skills.

Work Arrangement:

This role is eligible for a “hybrid” work arrangement. It is expected this person would be able to meet for “in person” meetings when needed or at the request of others.

Work Environment:

• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
• Each program site operates on a 24/7 basis, 365 days per year. To meet both the needs of our participants and contractual obligations, employees are required to be flexible in regard to scheduling and work location.
• Program sites are located throughout the Chicago area, including the North and South sides of Chicago, as well as the suburbs.
