Financial Controller
The National Grazing Lands Coalition (NatGLC), a $3 million 501(c)3 Non-profit association is seeking a Financial Controller to help the organization grow sustainably as it anticipates doubling in size over the next few years. The Financial Controller will lead a small team, and be responsible for the financial integrity of NatGLC through performing and supervising all accounting-related activities. The Controller’s duties include maintaining internal controls over financial reporting, entering the day-to-day transactions ($3-$5 million), presenting financial reports to an executive team, developing protocols, and overseeing the preparation of reports and budgets. This full-time position reports to the Executive Director. The Controller will possess exceptional organizational, analytical, and managerial skills, and will play a pivotal role in advancing NatGLC’s mission and objectives.
Essential Requirements & Responsibilities:
3+ years of experience in non-profit financial management;
Accounting:
Manage the general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and account reconciliations;
Enter day-to-transactions in bill.com, QuickBooks, credit card management system, travel reimbursement transactions, etc.
Prepare financial statements, analyses, and reports for the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and other necessary parties;
Follow, review, analyze, and develop accounting procedures and protocols, recommending changes where necessary;
Ensure the company systems conform to established financial regulations and requirements;
Prepare and submit regular reimbursement claims, financial reports, progress reports, award amendments, closeout reports, etc. for federal grants and agreements with funding partners;
Prepare regular internal reports for each funding agreement and meet with NatGLC Directors regularly to discuss progress and address any concerns;
Tax Preparation
Preparing and filing tax documents and other related IRS filings;
Payroll & Expenses
Responsible for processing payroll and allocation to any applicable awards;
Manage and process expense reimbursements;
Audits
Participate as the official organization point of contact for any audits;
Responsible for submission of all financial documentation to auditors;
Present the audit report to the Board of Directors;
Analyze audit results and oversee modifications when necessary;
Budgeting
Develop and monitor the organization’s operational budget in close coordination with the Executive Director;
Collaborate with the NatGLC staff on funding proposal budgets;
Monitor and report financial progress on signed agreements;
Reporting
Work closely with the NatGLC Treasurer to ensure transparency of financial position with the Board of Directors and develop annual operational budget and regular financial statements, which accurately reflect the organization’s financial condition.
Submit regular financial reports to the Board of Directors indicating the financial health of the organization, including presenting in front of the Board of Directors and others;
Managing
Provide managerial oversight for the Grants & Contracts Manager, and develop a team as necessary to carry out core responsibilities;
Long-term Planning
Analyze and recommend actions and pathways to plan for a long-term sustainable financial future for NatGLC, including recommendations on yearly fundraising and revenue targets, internal procedures and controls, and staff training.
Preferred Qualifications:
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain positive working relationships
Extensive experience with non-profit accounting systems and procedures;
Familiarity with sustainable livestock and grazing management systems
Adaptable and able to advance work strategies within complex partnerships; Ability to distill complex subject matter to any audience for comprehension
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; detail-oriented, strong independent work ethic; and ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment
A creative and positive approach to communication and problem-solving
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and virtual meeting platforms
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required
Willingness and ability to maintain confidential information and work with diverse populations.
Working Environment/Physical Activities: The work environment is an office setting and outdoors. Physical activities include sitting at a desk and working on a keyboard and computer several hours a day; conducting business over the computer and telephone; standing for long periods; and traveling long distances by vehicle (including traveling on unpaved roads). This position may also require moving materials up to 25 pounds. This position requires the ability to enunciate clearly, facilitate meetings, and interface professionally with the public.
While we offer a remote and flexible work environment this position is a full-time, salaried position keeping typical business hours when not traveling. Travel may be up to 10%.
This position is subject to travel, procurement, conflict of interest, code of ethics, and other organization policies.
This position reports to NatGLC’s Executive Director.
Salary & Benefits:
Salary: $65,000 - $90,000
