FINISHING DEPARTMENT MANAGER
SUMMARY:Manage the employees in the Finishing Department and maintain continuous production and quality in the Department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the following:
+ Setting production standards and development of plans to meet standards. Standards must be raised each year.
+ Involved in improvements and working directly with the process engineers that include refining internal operation methods or sequences as well as improving efficiency of label performance on customer lines.
+ Responsible for manufacturing’s segment of new product development.
+ Develop personal goals and department goals, which are aligned with those of the division.
+ Submit detailed monthly reports focusing on production, speed, waste, and utilization.
+ Must have mechanical aptitude to deal with daily manufacturing issues. Must ascertain whether issues are related to the operator, method, or machine.
+ Lead the department in Quality Improvement efforts.
+ Trainer, leader, and coach concerning all areas of safety. Actively participates on Safety Committee working towards elimination of all incidents/injuries.
+ Must be available to handle production problems, new or difficult startups, as well as follow through on development orders throughout a 24-hour day.
+ Evaluate backlogs and upcoming schedules in coordination with production control to determine appropriate overtime and is accountable for meeting budgets relating to overtime.
+ Evaluate employees as per required schedule. Evaluations are to be detailed, accurate, and timely.
+ Continually seek out improvement opportunities and take appropriate action to benefit the success of APC. PIP, long and short-term department goals and coordination of problem-solving teams are preferred methods.
+ Manage all employees in the Finishing Department. (i.e. schedule vacations; schedule personnel; resolve conflict, as necessary; conduct monthly department meetings; and continuous process improvement.)
+ Monitor costs of all purchased supplies.
+ Inventory control of purchased suppliers.
+ Create manuals, standards and procedures as pertains to the Finishing Department.
+ Control and prepare paperwork for rejected raw materials.
+ Orders pallets and negotiates the price for pallets.
+ Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; and 2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
