Under the general direction of the Fire Science Director, and the Lead Fire Academy Instructor a fire academy instructor plans, organizes, and provides instruction for the Yavapai College Firefighter I,II Academy. This is a part-time position; some evening and weekend hours are required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The instructional assignment is in the discipline of Fire Technology with a special emphasis on teaching in the YC fire academy.
Plans, organizes, provides instruction, for the College Firefighter Academy. Available to work during the Academy hours including Tuesday and Thursday evenings, Saturdays daytime hours. Must be adaptable to changes in the Academy schedule.
Provide academic instruction to students through lecture, lab, or performance courses; assess and develop cognitive abilities, communication skills, and higher order thinking skills among students through appropriate assignments and activities in one-on-one, classroom and multiple student instructional settings.
JOB SUMMARY.
Serves as day-to-day coordinator for the Fire Academy in accordance with Yavapai College Fire Science technology standards and training. Works closely with Lead Academy Instructors.
Requirements; Coordinates the planning, sequencing and integration of Fire Academy instruction, course scheduling and student outreach and recruitment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION STATEMENTS.
Essential Functions: Essential responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting course objectives and student learning outcomes through assignments, projects, discussions, and examinations; provide feedback in a timely manner to student inquiries while in class.
Coordinates with staff and faculty; integrates and sequences Fire Academy instruction in concert with external, multidiscipline learning communities; assists in the preparation for academy delivery of instruction, ensuring that course material available and correct. Observes Lead Instructors and assists in the training and education of fire academy students.
Ability to repair and trouble shoot firefighting equipment and malfunctions.
Evaluate student learning through direct observation, cognitive (written), and psychomotor (hands-on) exams.
Works with the Director of Fire Science and Fire Technology faculty to ensure the physical safety of trainees during instruction; takes appropriate emergency action in the event students are hurt or distressed during training. Ensures the comprehensive Cancer reduction program is followed.
Participates in a variety of Fire Academy meetings.
Assists in the strategic planning process for the Fire Academy program.
Provide feedback to training coordinators on training program improvement needs, topics, skills, lesson plans, and curriculum.
