Job Description:
A Fire Alarm Service Technician in the Fire and Safety Industry is responsible for installing, maintaining, repairing, and testing fire alarm systems in buildings to ensure they are in compliance with local, state, and national fire codes and standards. They work closely with building owners, facility managers, and fire departments to ensure that fire alarm systems are functioning properly, and that people and property are protected from fire.
Responsibilities:
- Installing and testing fire alarm systems in accordance with local, state, and national codes and standards.
- Performing routine maintenance on fire alarm systems to ensure they are functioning properly.
- Repairing fire alarm systems as needed.
- Conducting regular testing and inspections of fire alarm systems to ensure they are in compliance with all applicable regulations, including those related to system sensitivity, false alarm reduction, and code compliance.
- Troubleshooting system malfunctions and making necessary repairs to ensure proper operation.
- Responding to emergency calls to repair or replace damaged or malfunctioning fire alarm equipment.
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of inspection results, repair work, and equipment maintenance.
- Providing training and education to building owners, facility managers, and employees on the proper use and maintenance of fire alarm systems.
- Staying up-to-date with changes in fire codes and standards and recommending changes to fire alarm systems as needed.
- Working with fire departments to coordinate emergency response procedures and provide assistance during emergencies.
Minimum Requirements:
- Successful candidates for this position typically have a high school diploma or equivalent, with specialized training in fire alarm systems and service. Certification from a recognized organization, such as the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET), may be required.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills are essential for this role, as is the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Attention to detail and the ability to analyze technical data and reports are also important attributes for a Fire Alarm Service Technician.

Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods standing, kneeling, bending, and climbing ladders.
- Physically able to install system hardware and wiring.
- Must be able to lift 35 pounds at a time.
