KCI is seeking candidates for a Fire Protection Engineer-in-Training to expand our in-house Fire Protection Engineering team! We are currently searching for engineer with a B.S. in Fire Protection Engineering (FPE) or related engineering field, from an ABET-accredited 4-yr university. This is intended to be an Entry Level position. Passing of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam is a plus. Candidates must be a US Citizen.

Duties, Responsibilities & Other:This job entails:
- Under the guidance of senior engineers, perform engineering assessments, life safety and code analysis, calculations, and fire protection system(s) design.
- Design fire protection systems for commercial, institutional, industrial, and mission critical facilities.
- Candidate will work to produce 3-D designs of sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, and means of egress analysis, working to support architects and engineers in building design.
- Candidate will perform code analysis to ensure required features of fire protection and life safety are appropriately incorporated into designs.
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines within KCI to ensure design satisfies project constraints.
- Receive mentorship from a variety of senior fire protection engineers with different backgrounds and areas of expertise during the candidate’s career pathway to Professional Licensure.
Must have skills:
- Familiarity with International Code Council (ICC) codes and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
Preferred experience:
- Knowledge of egress modeling and sprinkler layout software.
- General knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit.
- Specific past experience with sprinkler and fire alarm design.
- Knowledge of sprinkler hydraulic calculation software.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate.
- B.S. in Fire Protection Engineering (FPE) or related engineering from an ABET-accredited 4-yr university.
- Bachelor's Degree required. Appropriate professional certification preferred.
- Minimum of 0-2 year's experience.
- Pre-employment drug screening is a condition of employment. Background and motor vehicle checks may be required based upon
- Complete Annual Individual Training Program
- Train adequate backup personnel to support your role in your absence
- Comply with all KCI policies and procedures
- Ensure projects fulfill ISO compliance requirements
- Complete other duties as required/assigned
- Achieve or exceed budgeted individual utilization target(80-85% typical)
- Attend bi-weekly(or more frequently as necessary) meetings with project team on all projects/tasks
- Complete all tasks on time and within budget while fully meeting the scope
- Consult and coordinate with other practices and sub-consultants as required
- Operate within specified (corporate or project) budget parameters
- Compare field data to base plan
- Conduct site visits and gather data, including measurements, sketches, notes and photographs as needed
- Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications and cost estimates for review and approval
- Prepare preliminary concept designs and submit for approval
- Read and interpret technical documents needed for performance of job
- Review and approve shop drawings
