SUMMARY
The Wipaire/FireBoss Technical Support Technician is responsible for supporting the installation, inspection, repair, and maintenance of the Wipaire and FireBoss product lines. In addition, this position will be responsible for:
- Field support
- Training authorized installation and service network
- Supporting Engineering in the development of product improvements and new products
- Supporting trade shows, operator’s conferences, and outbound sales efforts through travel as needed
- Travel, both domestic and international, which is estimated to average around 10%. However, this may be up to 50% during peak training periods which are typically February through May. Domestic and international travel may occur on short notice for emergency situations or urgent product support and significant overtime may be required for these situations as well.
- General office duties, such as: documentation of maintenance, repair, or installation procedures, engineering change requests, record keeping, etc.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
- General mechanic/maintenance and support responsibilities
- Technical /point-of-contact for Wipaire product installations
- Directs and oversees crew(s) assigned to various Wipaire and FireBoss installations /maintenance events as necessary when offsite
- Ensure proper QC steps are taken by Wipaire QA
- Performs associated log book paperwork
- Mechanic / Maintenance training on Wipaire and FireBoss products
- Creates and maintains training syllabis and materials
- Organizes and schedules training as directed
- Administers training to Wipaire mechanics, Service Center mechanics and other customer mechanics as directed
- Evaluates students based on FAR requirements, their performance and their capabilities to safely install, troubleshoot and repair Wipaire and FireBoss products
- Mentors, trains, and sets the standard of conduct in a positive and professional manner.
- Assist with technical support issues
- Responds to inquiries (phone, e-mail, etc.) as requested for technical support issues
- Works with Wipaire Data & Product Service team (D&PS), Wipaire Technical Support team and other support staff to resolve customer support issues
- Travels onsite to customer’s location to provide field support as needed

Required Experience:
Education, Experience and Credentials
- Four to ten years’ minimum related general aviation aircraft mechanic preferred.
- Prior experience working on FireBoss aircraft preferred.
- FAA Airframe & Power Plant (A & P) Certificate required. IA designation preferred.
- Two-year Technical or Trade School degree preferred.
- Ability to communicate in other languages, specifically Spanish, would be preferred, but not required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Maintains expert knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures and replacement of parts.
- Maintains expert knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair; and electrical theory.
- Maintains expert knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and shears.
- Maintains expert knowledge of FAA certification processes, including parts, manufacturing, repair processes, drawings, and all applicable compliance requirements.
- Has expert capability to plan, develop and implement a preventive maintenance schedule for each aircraft and follow it, monitoring wear and aging of parts and systems and logging activities.
- Meets FAA regulatory and safety requirements in all aspects of the work.
- Proficient in computer skills, including MS Office. Able to learn and utilize manufacturers’ software and all applicable Wipaire software packages.
- Has expert capability to plan, prioritize, coordinate, and manage own work in a fast-paced environment. Is able to work unsupervised, make moderate to high level decisions independently, and solve problems effectively and creatively.
- Has expert capability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Is an expert capable of detail orientation and interpreting engineering drawings and requirements on prints.
- Displays high levels of customer service, responding promptly and thoroughly to the inquiries and needs of individuals both internal and external to the organization.
- Perform lifting of supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Hear, speak and effectively verbally communicate in the English language, including following oral and written instructions, in order to communicate with people inside and outside the organization.
- Stand, squat, reach, kneel, bend, and twist/turn for extended periods of time and perform long hours of work in the shop and hangar, repairing and maintaining aircraft.
- Apply manual dexterity and visual acuity for operation of hand tools, power tools, and other equipment use in performing mechanic and maintenance duties.
- Move around the shop and hangar area repeatedly throughout the day.
- Travel nationally and potentially, internationally, as needed and directed by management. Must be able to obtain and maintain a United States passport.
- Must have all required tools designated on the Wipaire minimum required tool list within 90 days of starting employment.
- Comply with drug testing requirements in compliance with federal regulations.
