DESCRIPTION
The Naples Players (TNP) located in idyllic Naples, Florida is seeking a First Hand/Draper/Cutter to assist in the safe, accurate, and timely construction and alterations of assigned costume elements. The First Hand supervises volunteer stitchers/costume apprentices in the sewing and construction of assigned costume elements. In addition, the First Hand will assist in supporting the maintenance of costume stock.
JOB DUTIES
Support each costume build for all productions.
Pattern, cut and assemble garments.
Determine yardage for fabric and trims for the costume
Alterations to existing garments.
Attend fittings as needed.
Assist with preparation of projects for volunteers/stitchers.
Help supervise stitchers and keep work moving.
Be present at all requested tech rehearsals.
Assist in repairs and maintenance of costumes in current productions.
ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with the maintenance and laundry of the costumes for any TNP production or event.
When requested and available, fill in backstage as members of the wardrobe crew for productions in cases of illness or planned absences of an intern or Wardrobe Crew Member.
When needed, respond to weekend repairs as assigned by Shop Supervisor.
Maintain a clean and safe workspace.
Mandatory attendance at all dress rehearsals.
Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Experience in Costume Construction and technology with shop experience.
Understanding and knowledge of textiles and fabrics.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability follow direction and to work within tight deadlines.
Be detail orientated and self-motivated.
Regularly ascend 2 flights of stairs and lift heavy boxes.
Experience with domestic and industrial sewing machines and sergers.
Completion of projects within the time frame given by the Costume Shop Manager or Supervisor.
Availability to work night and weekends
Ability to work patiently with varying personalities and experience levels.
Able to follow direction, completing projects in a timely efficient manner.
Interpersonal Characteristics
Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to develop relationships of trust and respect with production staff, colleagues, volunteers, and donors.
